ENGLISH

Blood is a fluid connective tissue with two parts: plasma (the liquid, about 55%) and blood cells (about 45%). Plasma is mostly water with dissolved proteins (including fibrinogen for clotting), salts, hormones, digested food and wastes. When fibrinogen is used up in clotting, the remaining fluid is called serum.

Cell types: red blood cells (contain haemoglobin, carry oxygen, no nucleus in mammals), white blood cells (defend against germs) and platelets (cell fragments that help blood clot).

ENGLISH

The heart has four chambers: right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium and left ventricle. A wall, the septum, separates oxygenated blood (left side) from deoxygenated blood (right side). Atria are thin-walled receiving chambers; ventricles are thick-walled pumping chambers, and the left ventricle has the thickest walls because it pumps blood to the whole body.

Valves stop backflow: the tricuspid valve (right atrium → right ventricle) and the bicuspid (mitral) valve (left atrium → left ventricle). If the bicuspid valve is damaged, flow from left atrium to left ventricle is affected.

3. 🫀 Blood Vessels and Double Circulation
🏷 Tags: Arteries, Veins, except the pulmonary vein, Capillaries, capillaries, endothelium, pulmonary artery, pulmonary vein, aorta, double circulation,
ENGLISH

Arteries carry blood away from the heart (usually oxygenated); they are thick-walled, elastic and have no valves (except semilunar valves at the heart). Veins carry blood to the heart (usually deoxygenated) and have valves; all veins carry deoxygenated blood except the pulmonary vein. Capillaries are one cell thick — exchange of materials between blood and tissues occurs in capillaries. Every blood vessel has an inner lining of endothelium.

Flow: vena cava → right atrium → right ventricle → pulmonary artery (deoxygenated blood to lungs) → lungs → pulmonary vein (oxygenated) → left atrium → left ventricle → aorta → body. This is double circulation: pulmonary (heart↔lungs) plus systemic (heart↔body).

4. ⚠️ Heart Diseases and Smoking
🏷 Tags: Coronary heart disease:, Angina:, coronary artery,
ENGLISH

Coronary heart disease: fatty deposits narrow the coronary arteries that feed the heart muscle. Angina: chest pain when the heart muscle gets too little oxygen. Myocardial infarction (heart attack): blockage of blood flow in a coronary artery kills part of the heart muscle. Causes include high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, inactivity and fatty diet; treatment includes medicines, angioplasty/bypass surgery and lifestyle change.

Smoking harms the heart because carbon monoxide from smoke binds haemoglobin more effectively than oxygen, reducing oxygen delivery, and smoking narrows arteries (including in the legs), raises cholesterol and blood pressure, and strains the heart.

Section 3 — Long Questions
LONG + ANSWERS

1. Describe the functions of the components of blood.

Answer / جواب

Plasma: transports digested food, hormones, salts, urea and proteins; distributes heat; carries fibrinogen for clotting. Red blood cells: haemoglobin carries oxygen from lungs to tissues and helps carry carbon dioxide back. White blood cells: phagocytes engulf and destroy germs; lymphocytes produce antibodies for specific defence. Platelets: gather at wounds, release clotting factors and form a plug with fibrin to stop bleeding.

2. Explain how blood transports materials throughout the human body.

Answer / جواب

Blood is pumped by the heart through arteries to capillaries in every tissue. Plasma carries dissolved food, hormones, salts and wastes; RBCs carry oxygen to tissues and carbon dioxide back to the lungs; in capillaries, materials diffuse between blood and tissue fluid. Veins return blood to the heart, and the kidneys, liver, lungs and skin remove or process wastes.

3. Explain the structure of the heart with a diagram.

Answer / جواب

The heart is a fist-sized muscular organ in the chest, slightly left. It has four chambers (two atria above, two ventricles below), a septum dividing left and right sides, tricuspid and bicuspid valves between atria and ventricles, and semilunar valves at the aorta and pulmonary artery. Major vessels: vena cavae enter the right atrium, pulmonary artery leaves the right ventricle, pulmonary veins enter the left atrium, aorta leaves the left ventricle. The left ventricle wall is thickest. (Draw and label these parts; colour left side red for oxygenated blood, right side blue for deoxygenated.)

4. Explain the harmful effects of smoking related to heart diseases.

Answer / جواب

Carbon monoxide in smoke binds haemoglobin more effectively than oxygen, so blood carries less oxygen and the heart must work harder. Nicotine raises heart rate and blood pressure. Smoking raises blood cholesterol, damages vessel linings and narrows arteries — including coronary arteries (heart disease, angina, heart attack) and leg arteries (strain on the heart). Stopping smoking quickly lowers these risks.

5. Compare the structure and function of an artery, a vein and a capillary.

Answer / جواب

Artery: thick muscular elastic wall, narrow lumen, no valves (except semilunar at heart); carries blood away from heart under high pressure, usually oxygenated. Vein: thin wall, wide lumen, valves to stop backflow; carries blood to the heart under low pressure, usually deoxygenated. Capillary: wall one cell thick, very narrow, no muscle/valves; site of exchange of oxygen, food, wastes and fluids between blood and tissues.

Answer /

Answer /

Answer /

Answer /

Answer /

Section 4 — Inquisitive Questions
INQUISITIVE + ANSWERS

1. Why is oxygenated blood separated from deoxygenated blood in heart?

Answer / جواب

Answer: Separation keeps oxygen delivery efficient: fully oxygenated blood goes to the body at full strength, and deoxygenated blood goes only to the lungs for re-oxygenation. If they mixed, tissues would receive partly deoxygenated blood and organs (especially the brain) would get less oxygen.

2. How does regular exercise strengthen the circulatory system?

Answer / جواب

Answer: Exercise trains the heart muscle so it pumps more blood per beat, improves vessel elasticity, lowers resting heart rate and blood pressure, improves cholesterol balance, and grows more capillaries in muscles — so circulation becomes stronger and more efficient.

3. How can lifestyle choices prevent cardiovascular diseases?

Answer / جواب

Answer: Do not smoke; eat a balanced low-fat, low-salt diet; exercise regularly; keep a healthy weight; control blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar; limit alcohol; manage stress; and get regular check-ups.

4. If cholesterol levels in the blood are never regulated, how can it impact the heart and blood vessels over time?

Answer / جواب

Answer: Excess cholesterol deposits in artery walls as plaques. Arteries narrow and stiffen (atherosclerosis), blood flow falls, blood pressure rises, and a plaque rupture or clot can fully block a coronary artery — causing angina or a heart attack — or a brain artery, causing a stroke.

⚠️ Note (book-faithful gap): Inquisitive Q4 is numbered "5." in the book (the book skips 4); it is given here as the fourth inquisitive question, in the book's order, and the numbering slip is noted rather than silently renumbered.
ENGLISH SUMMARY

Human Blood Circulatory System starts with blood itself (1): plasma is about 55% and blood cells about 45%. Plasma is mostly water carrying proteins (including fibrinogen for clotting), salts, hormones, digested food and wastes; once fibrinogen is used up in clotting, the fluid left is serum. Red cells carry oxygen with haemoglobin and have no nucleus in mammals, white cells defend against germs, and platelets are fragments that help clotting. The heart (2) has four chambers — right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium, left ventricle — with the septum keeping oxygenated (left) and deoxygenated (right) blood apart. Atria are thin-walled receiving chambers, ventricles are thick-walled pumps, the left ventricle thickest because it serves the whole body, and the tricuspid and bicuspid (mitral) valves stop backflow. Vessels and double circulation (3): arteries carry blood away from the heart, thick-walled and elastic, usually oxygenated and without valves (except semilunar valves at the heart); veins carry blood to the heart, usually deoxygenated, with valves; capillaries are one cell thick, where exchange happens; every vessel is lined with endothelium. The flow runs vena cava → right atrium → right ventricle → pulmonary artery → lungs → pulmonary vein → left atrium → left ventricle → aorta → body — pulmonary plus systemic, hence double circulation. Diseases (4): coronary heart disease narrows the heart's own arteries with fatty deposits, angina is chest pain from too little oxygen, and a heart attack (myocardial infarction) is a blockage killing part of the muscle. Causes include high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, inactivity and fatty diet. Smoking harms because carbon monoxide binds haemoglobin more strongly than oxygen, so less oxygen is delivered, while arteries narrow, cholesterol and blood pressure rise, and the heart is strained.
