Greetings change with the clock, and getting them right makes people smile at once. Morning gets 'Good morning', afternoon gets 'Good afternoon', and night gets 'Good night' — plus 'Assalam-o-Alaikum' or 'Hello' any time you meet someone.
Two more words finish the set: 'Thank you' when someone helps you, and 'Sorry' when you hurt someone, even by accident. Say them at once, not later — a thank-you kept for tomorrow loses half its warmth.
Polite words are small keys that open big doors. 'Please' turns a demand into a request, 'Thank you' turns a gift into a happy memory, 'Excuse me' lets you pass without pushing, and 'Sorry' mends a mistake before it grows.
Compare the two ways of entering a room: walking in silently, or stopping at the door and asking 'May I come in, please?' The second way costs three seconds and earns respect for the whole day. That is why polite words are called magic words.
Picture note — Example: Ahmed: Good morning, teacher! • Teacher: Good morning, Ahmed! • Ahmed: May I come in, please?
Ahmed: Good morning, teacher! • Teacher: Good morning, Ahmed! • Ahmed: May I come in, please?
School manners are mostly about other people's turn to speak and learn. Raise your hand and wait — the teacher sees you, and your question will sound better for the short wait. Listen while others speak, because interrupting steals their turn the way cutting a line steals a place.
Share what you have, keep your corner clean, and stand in line without pushing. A class where everyone does these small things feels calm, and a calm class learns twice as fast.
Manners do not stop at the school gate — they follow you home and out into the street. At home, respect parents and elders, help without being asked twice, and speak softly even when you disagree. Soft speech is not weakness; it is how strong people show respect.
Outside, walk on the footpath, never litter, and in the Masjid walk calmly and speak quietly. People may forget your marks, but they will remember your manners everywhere you go.
Revise by acting, not just reading: greet someone properly in the morning, ask for something with 'please', thank someone before lunch, and apologise for one small mistake the same day. Four real uses beat forty read lines.
Then list the places manners live — school, home, road, Masjid — and give one manner for each without looking. If all four come easily, the chapter has become a habit, which is exactly what manners are meant to be.

This chapter is about good manners in English: greetings for morning, afternoon and night, the polite words please, thank you, excuse me and sorry, manners at school like raising your hand and listening, and manners at home, on the road and in the Masjid. The exercise is 5 multiple-choice, 4 short-answer, 2 long-answer and 1 think-and-answer SLO practice questions with the masters' answers.
Revision guidance: Use the manners for real today — a morning greeting, a 'please', a 'thank you' before lunch, one same-day apology — and then name one manner each for school, home, road and Masjid before the exercise.
