This chapter is SLO-based practice material for Class 3 Mathematics (Session 2026–27). It is NOT a copy of the official textbook exercise: no official Class 3 Mathematics book was available on file, so no book page numbers are claimed and no book text is reproduced. The chapter name and topics follow the Punjab (PCTB / SNC) Class 3 book list, and every question below was written from the chapter’s learning outcomes so students can practise. Answers marked here were checked arithmetically; derived workings are labelled as worked steps.

Multiplication is just fast addition of equal groups. 4 × 3 does not mean a new kind of sum — it means 4 groups of 3: 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12. Once you see the groups, the multiplication sign stops being scary.
The numbers you multiply are called factors, and the answer is called the product. So in 4 × 3 = 12, the factors are 4 and 3 and the product is 12. Learn your tables up to 10 and every multiplication becomes quick.
Tables have patterns that make them easy to remember. The table of 2 is just doubling: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10… The table of 5 always ends in 0 or 5: 5, 10, 15, 20… And the table of 10 just adds a zero: 3 × 10 = 30.
Two special rules are worth remembering forever: multiplying by 0 always gives 0, no matter how big the other number is, and multiplying by 1 gives the same number back. So 9 × 0 = 0 and 9 × 1 = 9.
Division is sharing equally. 12 ÷ 3 = 4 means: share 12 among 3 groups and each group gets 4. You can see it in dots or counters — three groups, four in each, twelve in all.
Division is the opposite of multiplication, and that is useful. Because 3 × 4 = 12, we know 12 ÷ 3 = 4. And when things do not share out exactly, what is left over is called the remainder: 13 ÷ 4 = 3 remainder 1, because 3 × 4 = 12 and 13 − 12 = 1.
In a word problem, the story tells you the operation. If every box, bag or row holds the same number, you multiply: 6 boxes × 8 pencils = 48 pencils. If things are shared equally, you divide: 48 pencils ÷ 6 boxes = 8 pencils in each box.
Stuck? Draw it. Little groups of dots or circles show you at once whether you are making equal groups (multiply) or sharing them out (divide). And always check a division by multiplying back.
1 6 × 7 = ?
Answer: (a) 42. Six groups of seven: 7+7+7+7+7+7 = 42, or from the 7 table: 6 × 7 = 42.
2 56 ÷ 8 = ?
Answer: (b) 7, because 7 × 8 = 56. The multiplication fact proves the division.
3 What is 9 × 0?
Answer: (b) 0. Anything times 0 is 0 — nine groups of nothing are nothing.
4 17 ÷ 5 = ?
Answer: (a) 3 remainder 2, because 3 × 5 = 15 and 17 − 15 = 2 left over.
5 4 bags have 6 apples each. Total apples?
Answer: (b) 24. Same number in each bag, so multiply: 4 × 6 = 24.
Answer: 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 20. Five groups of four, added one by one. 4+4+4+4+4=20
Answer: 6, because 6 × 6 = 36. 6، کیونکہ 6 × 6 = 36۔
Answer: 24. 8 × 3 = 24. 24۔ 8 × 3 = 24۔
Answer: 5 pencils each. 20 ÷ 4 = 5, and check: 4 × 5 = 20.
Answer: 63 eggs. 7 × 9 = 63.
Answer: 7 rows. 28 ÷ 4 = 7, and check: 7 × 4 = 28, which matches the class total. 7
Answer: Yes: 6 × 5 = 30 and 5 × 6 = 30. Division and multiplication are inverse operations, so one division fact gives two multiplication facts (the factors just swap places).
In this chapter you learned that multiplication is fast addition of equal groups, that tables have patterns (×2 doubles, ×5 ends in 0 or 5, ×10 adds a zero, ×0 is always 0), that division is sharing equally with a remainder when things do not share out exactly, and that word problems tell you the operation from their story. Remember: multiplication and division undo each other, so use one to check the other.
Revision guidance: Revision tip: say one table aloud every morning — 2s one day, 5s the next, 10s after that — and for every division you do, write the multiplication check beside it. Tables plus checking beat guessing every time.
