This unit is about the Great Caliphs of Islam — the four rightly-guided caliphs who led the Muslims after the Holy Prophet (PBUH): Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA), Hazrat Umar (RA), Hazrat Usman (RA) and Hazrat Ali (RA). A true leader needs courage, passion, determination and humanity, and these four leaders are role models for all Muslims.
The first caliph, Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA), was a close friend of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and was given the title of Siddique, the truthful, because he always spoke the truth. He was a kind-hearted and loving man, and he spent his whole life in the company of Rasoolullah (PBUH).
Hazrat Umar (RA) became the second caliph. He was known as Farooq, the one who distinguishes between right and wrong. Hazrat Usman (RA) was the third caliph, called the holder of two lights because he married two daughters of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Hazrat Ali (RA) was the fourth caliph and was the first among children to accept Islam.
New words help us understand the lesson. Affection means feelings of love. Distinguish means to recognise the difference between two things. Generous means open-handed, a person who gives happily to others.
Treaties means a formal agreement between two or more countries, and martyr means a person who dies for religion or patriotism. Learn these words with their meanings and use them in your own sentences.
There are five vowels in the English alphabet: a, e, i, o and u. Words like ants, elements, informed, ostrich and unknown begin with vowel sounds. Say them aloud and listen to the first sound.
A digraph is a group of two letters that makes one single sound, for example ch in chair and sh in ship. A trigraph is three letters making one sound, like tch in watch. Some words also have silent letters that are written but not pronounced, like the b in lamb and the k in knee.
Countable nouns are words for things we can count, like flowers, swings and butterflies. Uncountable nouns are words for things we cannot count one by one, like air, water and weather. We use a and an before singular countable nouns: an before vowel sounds and a before other sounds.
Adjectives are describing words: they tell us about colour, quality, size or origin, like Australian, Italian and Pakistani (adjectives of origin). Capitalisation means writing the first letter of a sentence, a name, a city and a day of the week with a capital letter.
Countable nouns وہ الفاظ ہیں جنہیں ہم گن سکتے ہیں، جیسے flowers, swings اور butterflies۔ Uncountable nouns وہ ہیں جنہیں ایک ایک کر کے نہیں گنا جا سکتا، جیسے air, water اور weather۔ واحد اسم سے پہلے a اور an آتے ہیں: حروف علت کی آواز سے پہلے an اور باقی آوازوں سے پہلے a۔
Adjectives بیان کرنے والے الفاظ ہیں: وہ رنگ، خوبی، سائز یا اصل بتاتے ہیں، جیسے Australian, Italian اور Pakistani۔ Capitalisation یعنی جملے، نام، شہر اور ہفتے کے دن کا پہلا حرف بڑا لکھنا۔
A word which carries more than one syllable is called a multi-syllable word, for example com-pan-ions, grand-fa-ther, rain-bow, class-room, el-e-phant and lead-er-ship. Clap once for each syllable as you say the word.
For writing, the book asks you to write a paragraph about Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) with the help of a mind map: date and place of birth, family, personality traits, achievements and career. Start with a topic sentence, then add supporting details in order, and end with a closing line.
