This unit is about the Colours of Pakistan: the many cultures, languages, dresses, foods and festivals of our country. Pakistan is a country with a rich cultural heritage. It is made of different cultural groups like Punjabis, Sindhis, Balochis, Pakhtuns, Kashmiris and Gilgit-Baltistanis, and each group has its own beautiful traditions.
The culture of the Punjab is considered one of the oldest and richest cultures in the world. Punjabi men wear kurta, tahmat and turban, and Punjabi women wear kurta and shalwar with a dupatta or shawl. Basant, the Spring Festival, is celebrated in Punjab in the middle of February.
The people of Sindh wear ajrak and Sindhi cap; the Sindh festival Jashan-e-Larkana is famous. Balochi men wear shalwar kameez with a turban, and Balochi women wear frocks with embroidery. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, men wear shalwar kameez and women wear frocks; in Gilgit-Baltistan, the Shandur Polo Festival is celebrated every year, and Kashmiri men and women wear phiran, a long woollen dress. The minorities of Pakistan — Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and Parsis — also celebrate their religious days with great enthusiasm.
Culture means a way of life, or customs and beliefs of people. Tradition means a belief, custom or way of living. Distinctive means special and unique. Colourful means full of colours, and dominate means to be effective or powerful.
Compound words in this unit: finger + print = fingerprint, tooth + paste = toothpaste. Circle the compound words in the given sentences, like I wrote a letter to my friend in my notebook. Sara likes to eat cupcakes. The shopkeeper is wasting my time.
I wrote a letter to my friend in my notebook. Sara likes to eat cupcakes. The shopkeeper is wasting my time.
A long vowel sound is a vowel sound that is said for a longer time, like the a in brave and game, the e in keep and need, the i in kind and find, the o in boat and float, and the u in cube and huge. Make more words with long vowel sounds.
In speaking, practise the dialogue of a flower exhibition: I am coming from a flower exhibition. How was it? It was a beautiful garden. Can you please tell me the way to your house? Yes, sure. First, go straight, then turn left, then turn right, and you will reach my house. Then role-play telling a friend the way to your house using directions.
لمبی حروف علت کی آواز وہ آواز ہے جو زیادہ دیر تک بولی جائے، جیسے brave اور game میں a، keep اور need میں e، kind اور find میں i، boat اور float میں o، اور cube اور huge میں u۔ لمبی آواز والے مزید الفاظ بناؤ۔
بولنے میں پھولوں کی نمائش کے مکالمے کی مشق کرو: I am coming from a flower exhibition. How was it? It was a beautiful garden. Can you please tell me the way to your house? Yes, sure. First, go straight, then turn left, then turn right, and you will reach my house. پھر دوست کو اپنے گھر کا راستہ بتانے کا کردار ادا کرو۔
Pronouns are words used in place of nouns: I, we, you, he, she, it, they. Fill in the blanks with correct pronouns: This is my favourite painting. ___ is very beautiful. Uzma and Asma are neighbours. ___ study together. Can I borrow your Kashmiri dress? ___ is very beautiful.
Be, do and have are used as main verbs and as helping verbs with pronouns: I am angry. I am reading a story. We did our homework. We have a house. You are late. You are going to the mall. He is cute. He has gone shopping. It is a small bunny. It is jumping. They have a bicycle. They have played football. Also punctuate sentences with full stops, question marks and exclamation marks, and use capital letters for the names of festivals and places.
ضمیر وہ الفاظ ہیں جو اسم کی جگہ استعمال ہوتے ہیں: I, we, you, he, she, it, they۔ درست ضمیر سے خالی جگہیں پُر کرو: This is my favourite painting. ___ is very beautiful. Uzma and Asma are neighbours. ___ study together. Can I borrow your Kashmiri dress? ___ is very beautiful.
Be, do اور have ضمیروں کے ساتھ مرکزی فعل اور مددگار فعل دونوں کے طور پر آتے ہیں: I am angry. I am reading a story. We did our homework. We have a house. You are late. You are going to the mall. He is cute. He has gone shopping. It is a small bunny. It is jumping. They have a bicycle. They have played football. جملوں میں ختمہ، سوالیہ اور تعجبیہ نشان بھی لگاؤ، اور تہواروں اور جگہوں کے نام بڑے حروف سے لکھو۔
To write a dialogue, write the speakers' names and their words in order, like a real conversation. Write a dialogue between two friends discussing the different festivals of Pakistan: Did you ever attend any festival? Yes, we went there last year. We have a lot of fun there.
Then write a paragraph: Have you ever attended any cultural festival? Share your experience in a short paragraph. Begin with which festival it was, then tell what you saw and did, and end with how you felt.
مکالمہ لکھنے کے لیے بولنے والوں کے نام اور ان کی باتیں ترتیب سے لکھو، جیسے حقیقی گفتگو ہو۔ پاکستان کے مختلف تہواروں پر دو دوستوں کے درمیان مکالمہ لکھو: Did you ever attend any festival? Yes, we went there last year. We have a lot of fun there.
پھر پیراگراف لکھو: Have you ever attended any cultural festival? Share your experience in a short paragraph. پہلے بتاؤ کہ کون سا تہوار تھا، پھر کیا دیکھا اور کیا کیا، اور آخر میں کیسا محسوس ہوا۔
