Unit 1 teaches patience through the life of Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him). When the people of Taif hurt him, he did not take revenge — he prayed for them. Patience means staying calm and kind even when life is hard.
یونٹ 1 حضرت محمد ﷺ کی زندگی سے صبر سکھاتا ہے۔ جب طائف کے لوگوں نے آپ کو تکلیف دی تو آپ نے بدلہ نہیں لیا — آپ نے ان کے لیے دعا کی۔ صبر کا مطلب ہے مشکل وقت میں بھی پرسکون اور مہربان رہنا۔
This unit teaches us through a story or a text, and we practise reading, speaking and writing about it.
Read the text slowly, look at the pictures, and guess the meaning of new words before asking the teacher.
Read the Taif example slowly, one sentence at a time, and ask yourself after each sentence: what did he do, and what would an impatient person have done instead? That one question opens the whole unit, because patience is easiest to understand when you compare it with its opposite.
For speaking practice, retell the Taif example in three short sentences of your own: what happened, what he did, and what we learn. Do not copy sentences from the page; say them in your own words, and if you get stuck, look at the key points and try again.
Learn the new words of this unit with their meanings and use each word in your own sentence.
Keep a word bank in your notebook: word, meaning, and one sentence. Revise it every week.
patience — staying calm when things are hard. Example: She waited with patience for her turn.
calm — quiet and peaceful, not angry or worried. Example: He stayed calm when he lost the game.
revenge — hurting someone back because they hurt you. Example: He did not take revenge; he forgave.
mock — to laugh at someone in an unkind way. Example: The people mocked him, but he stayed patient.
Grammar: silent letters. In 'knife' the 'k' is silent; in 'high' the 'gh' is silent; in 'switch' the 't' is silent.
We also learn common and proper nouns, countable and uncountable nouns, and the articles 'a' and 'an'.
A silent letter is written but not spoken, so your eyes and your ears must work together: say knife aloud and listen for the sounds that are really there, then look at the letters and spot the one that makes no sound. Make a list of five such words in your notebook and test a friend on them.
Two more quick tests from this unit: a proper noun names one special person or place, so it always starts with a capital letter — Lahore, not lahore — while a common noun like city or boy does not. And for a and an, listen to the first sound, not the first letter: a book, an apple.
Every unit ends with a message for life. Think about how you can follow that message at home and at school.
Practise writing a short paragraph on the unit's theme: one topic sentence, three supporting sentences, and one ending sentence.
When you write your paragraph on why patience is important, start with one clear topic sentence, for example: Patience helps us solve problems calmly. Then give three supporting sentences from your own life — listening before answering, waiting for your turn, staying kind when a game is lost — and finish with one ending sentence about what patient people gain.
Before you hand it in, read it aloud once. If any sentence does not fit the topic sentence, change it or drop it; a short paragraph that stays on one idea is better than a long one that wanders.
Revise this chapter in five minutes: cover the page and say the four key points from memory — patience, Taif, silent letters, paragraph — then open the page and check what you missed. Whatever you missed is tomorrow's first revision, not a failure.
Finally, practise the two skills that carry marks: point at any word and say which letter is silent, and point at any noun and say whether it is common or proper, and why.
Exercise Questions — with Answers (from the library masters). These are SLO-based practice questions from the library masters, NOT the textbook's printed exercise — use your school book for the printed exercise. Patience helps us solve problems calmly. A patient student listens, thinks and then answers. Patient people keep friends and stay happy even in hard times.
صبر ہمیں مسائل پرسکون طریقے سے حل کرنے میں مدد کرتا ہے۔ صابر طالب علم سنتا ہے، سوچتا ہے، پھر جواب دیتا ہے۔ صابر لوگ دوست بنائے رکھتے ہیں اور مشکل وقت میں بھی خوش رہتے ہیں۔
Answers vary: waiting for a turn, helping a slow friend, staying calm when losing a game.
جوابات مختلف ہو سکتے ہیں: باری کا انتظار، سست دوست کی مدد، کھیل ہار کر پرسکون رہنا۔
Staying calm, not shouting back, and solving the problem with words or a teacher's help.
This chapter teaches patience through the example of Taif, where hurt was answered with prayer instead of revenge, and it shows what patience looks like in a student's own life: listening before answering, waiting for a turn, staying kind when a game is lost. It covers silent letters, common and proper nouns, the articles a and an, and paragraph writing with a topic sentence, three supporting sentences and an ending sentence. The exercise is 4 multiple-choice, 4 short-answer, 2 long-answer and 2 think-and-answer SLO practice questions with the masters' model answers.
Revision guidance: Learn the Taif example first, then the silent-letter test and the common/proper test, then the paragraph shape. The long paragraph question is answered with the topic sentence plus three examples from your own life.
