This unit follows the official PCTB Class 6 English textbook (SNC 2022) — the unit title, theme, SLOs and scope-table skills are taken from the book. The practice questions below are written for this guide on the book's exercise pattern, with answers; they are not a verbatim copy of the book's exercise. No book page numbers are claimed.
Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ was born in Makkah in the tribe of Quraish. His father, Hazrat Abdullah, died before his birth, and his mother died when he was still a child. His grandfather, Abdul Muttalib, took care of him; when he was eight years old, his grandfather passed away and he came under the guardianship of his uncle, Abu Talib.
He helped his uncle in his caravan business. Hazrat Khadijah (R.A.), the most respected lady of her time, heard about his reputation as truthful, reliable and noble, so she entrusted him with her caravan to Syria. Her slave Maysarah was impressed by his integrity, strength of character and business ability. People called him Al-Amin (the Trustworthy) and As-Sadiq (the Truthful).
Compound words are made by joining two words: sun + shine = sunshine, foot + ball = football, black + board = blackboard, class + room = classroom. Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings and spellings: whether / weather (if / rain or sunshine), seen / scene (watched / a view), herd / heard (a group of animals / listened), hare / hair (an animal / hair on the head), they're / there / their (they are / at that place / belonging to them).
مرکب الفاظ دو الفاظ کو جوڑ کر بنتے ہیں: sun + shine = sunshine، foot + ball = football، black + board = blackboard۔ ہم آواز الفاظ وہ الفاظ ہیں جو سننے میں ایک جیسے لگتے ہیں مگر معنی اور ہجے مختلف ہوتے ہیں: whether / weather، seen / scene، herd / heard، hare / hair، they're / there / their۔
Common nouns name general things (city, boy, book); proper nouns name specific people or places (Makkah, Ahmed, Pakistan). Collective nouns name a group (team, class, flock); concrete nouns can be seen or touched (table, rain); abstract nouns are feelings or ideas (honesty, kindness, courage). A post modifier comes after a noun to describe it: 'the man in the blue shirt'. Some nouns look plural but are singular: scissors, news, mathematics.
Sentence patterns: SV (subject + verb, intransitive) — 'He runs.' SVO (subject + verb + object) — 'He reads a book.'
عام اسم عام چیزوں کے نام ہوتے ہیں (city, boy, book)؛ خاص اسم کسی خاص شخص یا جگہ کا نام ہوتا ہے (Makkah, Ahmed, Pakistan)۔ مجموعی اسم گروہ کا نام ہوتا ہے (team, class, flock)؛ ٹھوس اسم دیکھا یا چھوا جا سکتا ہے (table, rain)؛ تجریندی اسم احساس یا خیال ہوتا ہے (honesty, kindness, courage)۔ پوسٹ موڈیفائر اسم کے بعد آ کر اس کی وضاحت کرتا ہے: 'the man in the blue shirt'۔ کچھ اسم جمع نظر آتے ہیں مگر واحد ہوتے ہیں: scissors، news، mathematics۔
جملوں کی بناوٹ: SV (فاعل + فعل) — 'He runs.' SVO (فاعل + فعل + مفعول) — 'He reads a book.'
Capitalisation rules: the first letter of a sentence, the first letters of all proper nouns (Minar-e-Pakistan, Statue of Liberty, United Nations), the titles of stories, movies and shows (Fox and the Grapes, Tom and Jerry), and the greetings and closing in letters (Dear Ayesha, Yours Truly).
Paragraph writing: start with a topic sentence (the main idea), then add supporting sentences with details. Plan first: brainstorm, make a mind map, write a first draft, take peer feedback and teacher feedback, then write the final draft.
بڑے حروف کے اصول: جملے کا پہلا حرف، تمام خاص اسموں کے پہلے حروف (Minar-e-Pakistan, Statue of Liberty, United Nations)، کہانیوں، فلموں اور پروگراموں کے عنوانات (Fox and the Grapes, Tom and Jerry)، اور خطوط میں سلام اور اختتام (Dear Ayesha, Yours Truly)۔
پیراگراف لکھنا: پہلے ٹاپک سینٹنس (مرکزی خیال) لکھیں، پھر معاون جملے تفصیل کے ساتھ۔ پہلے منصوبہ بنائیں: سوچیں، مائنڈ میپ بنائیں، پہلا مسودہ لکھیں، ساتھیوں اور استاد کی رائے لیں، پھر حتمی مسودہ لکھیں۔
