The Holy Quran is the last revealed Book of Allah. It was revealed to Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) over about 23 years through Hazrat Jibrail (AS). It is guidance for all mankind till the Day of Judgement.
The Quran has 114 Surahs and 30 Paras. Its first Surah is Al-Fatiha and its last Surah is An-Nas. Every Surah except Surah Taubah begins with Bismillah.
The Quran is the Word of Allah, protected from any change. Allah Himself has taken the responsibility of its protection. It guides us in beliefs, worship, morals and dealings.
Reading, understanding and acting upon the Quran is the duty of every Muslim. Its recitation brings reward, and its teachings bring peace in this world and success in the Hereafter.
We should be in a state of wudu (ablution) when we touch and recite the Quran. We should recite it slowly, clearly and with attention to its meaning, not in a hurry.
The Quran should be kept in a clean, high place. We should not place other things on it, and we should listen quietly and respectfully when it is being recited.
The Quran teaches honesty, kindness to parents, justice, patience and care for neighbours. A Muslim checks his daily actions against the teachings of the Quran.
Starting the day with a little recitation, remembering Allah, and following the Quran in small matters — truth in speech, fairness in dealings — makes the whole life better.
Many Muslims memorise the whole Quran; they are called Huffaz. Even learning a few Surahs by heart and reciting them in Salah keeps us close to the Quran.
Loving the Quran means reading it regularly, learning its translation, and teaching it to others. The best among Muslims are those who learn the Quran and teach it.
