This revised page was built from the existing Class 6 Mathematics library master chapter (chapter-13-complete-guide-book.html) in the same series. No official Class 6 Mathematics book copy was on disk for a fresh page-by-page check, so no book page numbers are claimed and the exercise below is the master chapter's own SLO-based practice set — NOT the official textbook exercise (the master itself labels it SLO-based, not copied from the book). Section explanations and answers follow the master chapter; nothing has been invented to fill gaps.

1. Data and Its Types
🏷 Tags: data, its, types
ENGLISH

Data are collected facts and numbers. Primary data are collected by the researcher directly (a class survey); secondary data are taken from existing sources (a newspaper report).

Data can be grouped (ungrouped: raw list; grouped: in classes like 0–10, 10–20) to make it easier to understand.

2. Tally Marks and Frequency
🏷 Tags: tally, marks, frequency
ENGLISH

Tally marks record counts in groups of five: four vertical strokes crossed by a fifth diagonal (|||| with a cross = 5). The frequency of a value is how many times it occurs.

Example: favourite fruits of 20 students — tally marks give frequencies like apple 8, banana 7, mango 5. A frequency table organises this clearly.

TallyGroups of 5→Frequency→Table→Counts
Figure samjho: Tally in fives; frequency is how often a value occurs.
3. Bar Graphs
🏷 Tags: bar, graphs
ENGLISH

A bar graph shows data as bars: longer bar = larger value. Bars can be vertical or horizontal. Always label the axes, give a title, and use a uniform scale.

Example: bars for apples (8), bananas (7) and mangoes (5) instantly show apples are most popular. Reading a bar graph means reading heights against the scale.

Bar graphBars→Axes labels→Title→Uniform scale
Figure samjho: Longer bar = larger value; label axes and use one scale.
4. Pie Graphs
🏷 Tags: pie, graphs
ENGLISH

A pie graph shows data as slices of a circle: the whole circle is 100% (360°). Each slice’s angle = (value ÷ total) × 360°.

Example: if 10 of 40 students like cricket, the slice is (10 ÷ 40) × 360° = 90° — a quarter of the pie. Pie graphs suit shares of a whole.

Pie graphWhole = 360°→Slice angle→Shares→Percent
Figure samjho: Whole circle 360°; slice angle = (value ÷ total) × 360°.
5. Mean (Average)
🏷 Tags: mean, average
ENGLISH

The mean (average) = sum of values ÷ number of values. Example: marks 60, 70, 80 → mean = 210 ÷ 3 = 70.

The mean summarises a whole set in one number, but it can hide spread: 0 and 100 also average 50. Always look at the data too, not only the mean.

MeanSum ÷ count→One number→Hides spread→Example 70
Figure samjho: Mean = sum ÷ count; useful, but check the spread too.

Short Answer Questions
1 What is frequency?

Answer: The number of times a value occurs in data.

2 Find the mean of 12, 18, 24, 30.

Answer: Sum 84 ÷ 4 = 21.

3 In a pie graph, a value is 25 out of 100. What is its angle?

Answer: (25 ÷ 100) × 360° = 90°.

4 Why must a bar graph use a uniform scale?

Answer: So that bar lengths compare fairly; a broken scale misleads.

Long Answer Questions
1 The marks of 5 students are 55, 65, 75, 85, 95. Find the mean and say whether most students scored above or below it.

Answer: Sum = 375; mean = 375 ÷ 5 = 75. Two scored above (85, 95), two below (55, 65), one equal (75).

2 In a class of 36, 12 like football, 18 like cricket, 6 like hockey. Draw (describe) a pie graph: find each angle.

Answer: Football: (12 ÷ 36) × 360° = 120°. Cricket: (18 ÷ 36) × 360° = 180°. Hockey: (6 ÷ 36) × 360° = 60°. Check: 120 + 180 + 60 = 360°.

SUMMARY

This chapter handles information: what data is and where it comes from, tally marks and frequency tables, bar graphs, pie graphs, and the mean. The habit to build is checking the graph against the numbers — a graph that does not match its table is telling a story that is not true.

  • 1. Data and Its Types: Data is collected information — primary data you collect yourself, secondary data someone else collected — and raw data needs organising before it can speak.
  • 2. Tally Marks and Frequency: Tally marks bundle counts in fives and a frequency table turns those bundles into numbers you can work with.
  • 3. Bar Graphs: A bar graph shows categories as bars — equal gaps, a clear scale, and a title — and reading it means reading the scale, not guessing the height.
  • 4. Pie Graphs: A pie graph shows parts of a whole as sectors — each sector's angle is its fraction of 360°, and all the angles must add to 360°.
  • 5. Mean (Average): The mean is the total divided by how many values there are — it is the fair-share value, and it moves if any value changes.

Revision guidance: For every graph question, first copy the table, check the total, then draw or read the graph from the scale — and for pie graphs, always check the angles add to 360°.
