SLO-based practice chapter: no clean official PCTB book PDF for Class 7 Computer Science was available at build time, so this chapter is built from the PCTB/SNC Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for Class 7 Computer Science. It is practice material for the curriculum topics — NOT the official book exercise. When the official book is obtained, its exercise will replace this practice set. Nothing here is presented as a book page or an official question.
Chapter titles follow the PCTB/SNC curriculum progression for this class. All questions and answers below are original practice material written for this guide.
The system unit is the box that holds the computer's main parts. Inside it, the motherboard connects everything; the CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the brain that follows instructions; RAM is fast temporary memory that forgets when power goes off; ROM is permanent memory that keeps start-up instructions.
On the outside are ports — sockets for USB drives, monitors, keyboards and the internet — and storage devices such as hard disks and SSDs that keep your files when the power is off.
Input devices send data into the computer: keyboard, mouse, microphone, scanner and camera. Output devices show results: monitor, printer and speakers. Storage devices keep data: USB flash drive, hard disk, SSD and memory card.
A simple rule: if it puts information in, it is input; if it takes information out for you to see or hear, it is output; if it keeps information, it is storage. A touchscreen is both input and output.
Software is divided into two kinds. System software runs the computer: the operating system (Windows, Linux, Android) manages files, memory and devices, and lets other programs run. Without it, the computer cannot work.
Application software does a user's job: a word processor writes documents, a browser opens websites, a game entertains. You choose applications; the operating system is the platform they all stand on.
ICT (Information and Communication Technology) means all the tools that handle information and communication: computers, phones, the internet. Using them well includes health: sit straight, keep the screen at eye level, and take a short break every 30–40 minutes.
Healthy habits also protect your eyes (do not sit too close, blink often) and your time: homework first, games and videos after, and devices off at bedtime so sleep is not disturbed.
اس chapter کی exercise SLO-based practice ہے — MCQs, short اور long سوال اس guide کے لیے لکھے گئے ہیں, کتاب کی official exercise نہیں.
1. The CPU is:
Answer: (b) — The CPU is the brain of the computer.
2. RAM differs from ROM because RAM:
Answer: (a) — RAM is temporary and forgets without power; ROM keeps start-up instructions.
3. A keyboard is a(n):
Answer: (c) — A keyboard sends data in, so it is an input device.
4. A monitor is a(n):
Answer: (b) — A monitor shows results out, so it is an output device.
5. The operating system is:
Answer: (b) — The operating system is system software that manages the computer.
6. A healthy computer habit is:
Answer: (b) — Regular breaks protect eyes and posture.
Answer: The motherboard connects all the main parts of the computer — CPU, memory, storage and ports — so they can work together.
Answer: RAM is fast, temporary memory that forgets when power goes off and holds programs in use. ROM is permanent memory that keeps start-up instructions even without power.
Answer: Input: keyboard, mouse. Output: monitor, printer. Storage: USB flash drive, hard disk.
Answer: System software (operating system) runs the computer itself; application software (word processor, browser, game) does a user's specific job.
Answer: Because screens disturb sleep, and good sleep is needed for learning, health and mood the next day.
Answer: The motherboard connects everything. The CPU follows instructions and is the brain. RAM is fast temporary memory for programs in use; it forgets without power. ROM holds permanent start-up instructions. Storage (hard disk/SSD) keeps files without power. Ports on the outside connect USB drives, monitors, keyboards and the internet. Together they form a working computer.
Answer: Input sends data in: keyboard, mouse, microphone, camera. Output shows results: monitor, printer, speakers. Storage keeps data: USB drive, hard disk, memory card. A touchscreen is both: you touch it to give input, and it displays output on the same screen.
Answer: The operating system manages files, memory and devices, and lets applications run: without it, programs could not open files, use the printer, or share the screen. It is the platform every application stands on, and it also handles security and user accounts. A computer without an operating system can power on but cannot do useful work.
Digital skills start inside the machine: the system unit's motherboard, CPU, RAM, ROM and storage; input, output and storage devices; system software that runs the computer and applications that do your jobs; and healthy habits — posture, breaks and sleep — that keep ICT helpful, not harmful.
