1. Pakistan's Great Cities
🏷 Tags: great cities, Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad
ENGLISH

Pakistan's largest cities: Karachi (the largest city and economic capital, on the Arabian Sea), Lahore (cultural capital, Mughal heritage), Faisalabad (textile city), Rawalpindi/Islamabad (twin cities: old garrison town and planned capital), and Multan (city of saints).

Together, Pakistan's cities hold over a third of the population — and a growing share every year.

Karachi: economic→Lahore: cultural→Faisalabad: textiles↓Islamabad: planned
Is tasveer se samjho: Karachi
Great cities.
2. Why People Move to Cities
🏷 Tags: migration, jobs, pull factors
ENGLISH

People move to cities for jobs (factories, offices, ports), education (colleges, universities), health (hospitals, specialists) and facilities (electricity, water, transport, entertainment). This is called rural-to-urban migration.

Push factors from villages: small landholdings, mechanisation needing fewer hands, and few schools. Pull factors of cities: wages, lights, and opportunity.

Push: small landPush: few schoolsPull: jobsPull: hospitals, colleges
Is tasveer se samjho: Log
Why people move.
3. Problems of City Lifeشہری زندگی کے مسائل
🏷 Tags: city problems, traffic, pollution, housing
ENGLISH

City problems: katchi abadis (slums, where migrants live without clean water or sewerage), traffic jams and air pollution, water shortages (Karachi's chronic problem), garbage uncollected, and crime in crowded, anonymous streets.

The root cause: cities grow faster than their services. Houses, pipes, buses and schools cannot keep up with arrivals.

Katchi abadis→Traffic, pollution→Water shortage↓Garbage, crime
Is tasveer se samjho:
City problems.
4. Making Cities Liveable
🏷 Tags: liveable cities, planning, clean water
ENGLISH

Solutions taught in the lesson: planned housing, clean water and sewerage for katchi abadis (regularisation, not demolition alone), public transport (buses, metro), parks and trees, waste collection and recycling, and jobs in villages so migration slows.

Islamabad is the model of planning: sectors, green belts, wide roads — proof that Pakistani cities can be planned, not only grown.

Planned housingWater, sewerageBuses, metroParks, recycling
Is tasveer se samjho:
Making cities liveable.
5. City Life: Gains and Losses
🏷 Tags: gains, losses, city life, village life
ENGLISH

City gains: opportunity, education, hospitals, diversity, anonymity that frees individuals from village gossip. City losses: pollution, loneliness in crowds, high prices, and distance from nature and extended family.

The lesson's verdict: cities are neither heaven nor hell — they are tools. Planned well, they lift millions; neglected, they crush them. Citizens must demand planning and practice cleanliness.

Opportunity→Education, hospitals→Pollution, loneliness↓Plan well: lift millions
Is tasveer se samjho:
Gains and losses.

SHORT QUESTIONS

Short Q1: Name Pakistan's five great cities and one identity each.

Answer / جواب

Karachi (economic capital), Lahore (cultural capital), Faisalabad (textiles), Rawalpindi/Islamabad (twin cities, planned capital), Multan (city of saints).

Short Q2: Give two push factors and two pull factors of migration.

Answer / جواب

Push: any two of small landholdings, mechanisation, few schools. Pull: any two of jobs, education, health, facilities.

Short Q3: Why do cities grow faster than their services?

Answer / جواب

Because arrivals come daily, but houses, pipes, buses and schools take years to build — growth outruns construction.

LONG QUESTIONS

Long Q1: Explain why katchi abadis need regularisation, not demolition alone.

Answer / جواب

Because demolition alone leaves people homeless and they rebuild elsewhere; regularisation gives clean water, sewerage and legal addresses, turning a slum into a neighbourhood while residents stay.

Long Q2: Are cities heaven or hell? Give the lesson's verdict with reasons.

Answer / جواب

Neither: they are tools. Planned well, they lift millions with jobs, education and hospitals; neglected, they crush them with pollution, slums and crime. The verdict depends on planning and citizenship.

THINK & ANSWER

Answer / جواب

Gains: any three of jobs, education, hospitals, facilities, diversity, freedom from gossip. Losses: any three of pollution, loneliness, high prices, distance from nature and extended family.
