SLO-based practice chapter: no clean official PCTB book PDF for Class 8 Computer Science was available at build time, so this chapter is built from the PCTB/SNC Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for Class 8 Computer Science. It is practice material for the curriculum topics — NOT the official book exercise. When the official book is obtained, its exercise will replace this practice set. Nothing here is presented as a book page or an official question.
Chapter titles follow the PCTB/SNC curriculum progression for this class. All questions and answers below are original practice material written for this guide.
A spreadsheet (for example Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets) stores data in a grid: columns run top to bottom (A, B, C), rows run side to side (1, 2, 3), and a cell is where a row and column meet, named like B4.
Each worksheet holds one table — for example, one class's marks. A workbook can hold several worksheets, one per class or subject.
Type numbers and labels carefully — one wrong digit changes every result that uses it. A formula starts with = and calculates from other cells: =SUM(B2:B6) adds five marks, =AVERAGE(B2:B6) finds their mean.
Formulas use cell references, not typed numbers, so when a mark changes, the total and average update themselves. That is the whole point of a spreadsheet: calculate once, reuse forever.
A chart shows spreadsheet data as a picture. A bar chart compares categories (marks of five students); a pie chart shows shares of a whole (how a budget is divided); a line chart shows change over time (temperature across a week).
Choose the chart that answers the question: comparison → bar, share → pie, trend → line. Always title the chart and label its axes, or the picture will mislead.
Sort arranges rows in order (highest marks first); filter shows only rows that match a condition (only students above 80%). Both help you find answers without changing the data.
Manage data safely: keep one master copy, back it up, check totals after entering data, and never share a sheet containing personal details publicly. A spreadsheet with names and phone numbers is sensitive data.
اس chapter کی exercise SLO-based practice ہے — MCQs, short اور long سوال اس guide کے لیے لکھے گئے ہیں, کتاب کی official exercise نہیں.
1. In a spreadsheet, B4 is a:
Answer: (c) — A cell is where a row and column meet; B4 is column B, row 4.
2. Which formula adds cells B2 to B6?
Answer: (b) — SUM adds a range of cells.
3. A formula must start with:
Answer: (b) — Spreadsheet formulas begin with =.
4. Which chart shows change over time?
Answer: (c) — A line chart shows trends over time.
5. Filtering a sheet means:
Answer: (b) — A filter shows only rows matching a condition, without changing the data.
6. Why use cell references in formulas?
Answer: (b) — Cell references make totals and averages update automatically when data change.
Answer: A cell is the box where a row and a column meet, named by its column letter and row number, for example B4.
Answer: =AVERAGE(C2:C10)
Answer: A pie chart, because it shows parts of a whole — each slice is one share of the total budget.
Answer: Sorting rearranges all rows into an order; filtering hides rows that do not match a condition while keeping the data unchanged.
Answer: Because it contains sensitive personal data: sharing it publicly could expose students to unwanted contact or fraud, so it must be kept private and backed up safely.
Answer: The teacher enters each student's name in one column and marks for each test in following columns. Formulas compute totals (=SUM) and averages (=AVERAGE) for every student, and the class average. Sorting shows the highest marks first; filtering shows only students below a pass mark for extra help. A bar chart compares students' totals visually. Because formulas use cell references, correcting one mark updates all results.
Answer: Bar chart: comparing marks of five students — each bar is one student. Pie chart: showing how a monthly budget is divided — each slice is one expense's share. Line chart: showing temperature across a week — the line's rise and fall is the trend. Choosing the wrong type misleads: a pie chart cannot show a trend, and a line chart is poor for comparing unrelated categories.
Answer: Enter data carefully and double-check totals after entry; use formulas instead of typed results so corrections propagate; keep one master copy and back it up; sort and filter instead of deleting rows to find answers; and never share sheets containing personal details publicly. Accuracy is checked by totals and spot checks; safety by backups and access control.
A spreadsheet is a grid of cells where formulas with cell references calculate totals and averages that update themselves; bar, pie and line charts show comparison, share and trend; and sorting, filtering, backups and privacy keep data accurate and safe.
