The lesson is an expository text on the life and mission of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). It opens with Makkah Mukarramah, about fifty miles from the Red Sea, and describes pre-Islamic Arabia: a people of remarkable memory and eloquence, with yearly poetry fairs at Ukaz.
It then describes the first revelation brought by Hazrat Jibril in the cave of Hira, the pagan Arabs' opposition, and their delegation to Hazrat Abu Talib demanding that the preaching stop. The lesson closes with tributes — Michael H. Hart's ranking in The 100 and words of Hazrat Ayesha (RA) — and the Quranic verse (33:45-46) presenting the Rasoolullah (PBUH) as a mercy and a light for mankind.

Theme: Ethics and values — justice, handling of trust, and self-discipline. The lesson shows how one man's character and message transformed a society: from idol-worship and division to Tauheed (Oneness of Allah) and the unity of mankind.
Message: True greatness lies in mercy, truthfulness and steadfastness. The Rasoolullah (PBUH) elevated mankind spiritually (through Tauheed) and in worldly life (through justice, trust and compassion). The final Quranic verse sums up his role: a witness, a bearer of good news, a warner, and a lamp spreading light.
Grammar — the eight parts of speech: noun (person, place, thing, idea), pronoun (takes the place of a noun), verb (action or state of being), adjective (describes a noun), adverb (modifies a verb, adjective or another adverb), preposition, conjunction and interjection. The unit also teaches word patterns: prefixes (added at the beginning, e.g. re- + write = rewrite) and suffixes (added at the end, e.g. teach + -er = teacher), plus dictionary skills — pronunciation key, guide words and parts of speech.
Writing — paragraph and informative/explanatory essay: plan with brainstorming, mind-mapping and free writing; organise ideas clearly; write on themes such as tolerance and religious harmony.
This is a textbook expository lesson, not the work of a single named author in the book. Its authority comes from the sources it quotes: the Quran (33:45-46), the life of the Rasoolullah (PBUH) as recorded in Islamic tradition, and the judgement of the American author Michael H. Hart, who in The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History credited him with both the theology of Islam and its main ethical principles.
Exam tip: learn the Ukaz fair, the Hira revelation, the Abu Talib delegation and the Hart reference — all four are favourite short-question points.
Exercise Questions — with Answers (from the library masters). The English textbook prints no answer keys, so these answers are the masters' model answers, not official keys, and are kept as written in the masters. Only the Reading and Critical Thinking questions from the masters are reproduced here as Q&A; vocabulary drills, oral communication and other writing tasks are not reproduced as separate Q&A — this unit's grammar point and writing skill are explained in Section 4 and its glossary in Section 2.
Makkah lay in a barren valley about fifty miles from the Red Sea, on the trade route — a meeting place of caravans and tribes. Its position made it a commercial and religious centre of Arabia, so the reader understands why a message proclaimed there could reach the whole peninsula and beyond, and why its people were in contact with many cultures.
مکہ کی جغرافیائی حیثیت نے اسے عرب کا تجارتی اور مذہبی مرکز بنایا، اس لیے وہاں سے اٹھنے والا پیغام پورے جزیرہ عرب تک پہنچ سکا۔
It shows a highly developed oral and literary culture: poetry was prized above all, poets competed at the yearly fair of Ukaz, and a man could memorise long poems and genealogies. The Arabs valued the spoken word, honour and eloquence — the very medium through which the Quran's literary power would later be recognised.
اس سے ظاہر ہوتا ہے کہ عربوں کی ثقافت زبانی اور ادبی لحاظ سے بہت ترقی یافتہ تھی؛ شاعری کو سب سے زیادہ قدر کی نگاہ سے دیکھا جاتا تھا۔
The anecdote shows the Arabs' astonishing memory and love of poetry: Hammad could recite thousands of poems before the Caliph. It proves, through a concrete example, the lesson's claim about Arab eloquence and explains why poetry mattered so much in that society.
یہ واقعہ عربوں کے غیر معمولی حافظے اور شاعری سے محبت کو ثابت کرتا ہے؛ حماد نے خلیفہ کے سامنے ہزاروں اشعار سنائے۔
Pre-Islamic Arabia, like other declining civilisations, was rich in art and poetry but divided by tribal wars, idol-worship and moral decay. Renewal came, as in other ages, through a moral and spiritual message that united people under one law and one God — showing that civilisations fall through moral failure and rise through moral reform.
جس طرح دوسری تہذیبیں اخلاقی زوال سے گرتی ہیں، اسی طرح عرب معاشرہ بھی تفرقے اور بت پرستی کا شکار تھا؛ اور اخلاقی و روحانی اصلاح سے ہی اس کی تجدید ہوئی۔
The pagan Arabs feared for their idols, their trade and their tribal dominance. They mocked him, pressured his followers, and sent a delegation to his uncle Hazrat Abu Talib demanding that he stop his nephew from preaching and return to idol-worship. He faced boycott, hardship and personal loss, yet remained steadfast.
کفار کو اپنے بتوں، تجارت اور قبائلی برتری کا خطرہ تھا؛ انہوں نے آپ ﷺ کا مذاق اڑایا، پیروکاروں پر دباؤ ڈالا اور حضرت ابو طالب کے پاس وفد بھیجا۔
Spiritually, he replaced idol-worship with Tauheed — the worship of One Allah — and gave mankind a clear moral law. In worldly life, he established justice, trust, compassion and the equality of all human beings, turning warring tribes into one brotherhood (Ummah) and raising the status of women, orphans and slaves.
روحانی طور پر آپ ﷺ نے بت پرستی کی جگہ توحید دی، اور دنیاوی زندگی میں انصاف، امانت، شفقت اور انسانوں کی برابری قائم کی۔
The verse calls him a witness over mankind, a bearer of glad tidings, a warner, one who invites to Allah, and a lamp spreading light. In one passage it gathers his whole mission: to testify to the truth, to warn against evil, to invite to Allah, and to guide people out of darkness into light.
یہ آیت آپ ﷺ کو گواہ، خوشخبری دینے والا، ڈرانے والا، اللہ کی طرف بلانے والا اور روشنی پھیلانے والا چراغ قرار دیتی ہے — یہی آپ ﷺ کا پورا مشن ہے۔
The author views them with balanced respect: he admires their memory, eloquence and poetry (Ukaz fairs, Hammad's recitation) but is clear about their moral darkness — idol-worship, tribal warfare and division. The evidence is the poetry culture itself on one side, and the need for a reforming message on the other.
مصنف عربوں کی فصاحت اور شاعری کی تعریف کرتا ہے لیکن ان کی بت پرستی اور قبائلی جنگوں کو اخلاقی تاریکی قرار دیتا ہے — یہ متوازن نظریہ ہے۔
Central idea: Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) is the Saviour of Mankind, who rescued Arabia from ignorance and division through Tauheed and moral reform. Supporting details: Makkah's position and Arab poetry culture; the revelation in Hira; opposition and the Abu Talib delegation; Hart's ranking and Ayesha's (RA) tribute; the Quranic verse (33:45-46) as the summary of his mission.
This chapter is the lesson on the life and mission of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH): Makkah near the Red Sea, pre-Islamic Arabia with its memory, eloquence and the Ukaz poetry fair, the first revelation in the cave of Hira, the opposition and the delegation to Hazrat Abu Talib, and the closing tributes — Hart's The 100, the words of Hazrat Ayesha (RA) and Quran 33:45-46. It covers the glossary, the theme of Tauheed and unity, the eight parts of speech, and the lesson's sources. The exercise is Reading and Critical Thinking questions with answers.
Revision guidance: Revise in this order: the four steps of the lesson first, then the glossary, then the four exam-favourite points — the Ukaz fair, the Hira revelation, the Abu Talib delegation and the Hart reference. The Quranic verse is the one-line summary of the whole lesson.
