Hazrat Asma (RA) was among the early few who accepted Islam. She was the daughter of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique (RA), the stepsister of Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqa (RA), the wife of Hazrat Zubair bin al-Awwam (RA) and the mother of Hazrat Abdullah bin Zubair (RA).
During the Hijrah (622 A.D.), she prepared food for the journey and, finding nothing to tie it with, tore her own belt — earning the title Zaat-un-Nitaqain (the one of two belts). Every night she carried provisions through rugged mountains to the cave of Thawr. When Abu Jehl demanded her father's whereabouts, she answered with a counter-question and did not reveal the secret, even when he slapped her so hard that her ear-ring fell off. She comforted her blind grandfather, Hazrat Abu Quhafaa (RA), by placing pebbles under a cloth where the family money had been kept, so he would believe wealth had been left behind. She lived to about a hundred years, so generous that nobody ever returned empty-handed from her doorstep.

Theme (as stated in the book): to appreciate the integrity and valour of Hazrat Asma (RA) for the cause of Islam. She is the role model for the Muslim Ummah due to her modesty, truthfulness, honesty, piety, bravery and generosity. The book's theme is handling of trust, self-discipline, and respecting self and others.
Message: Trust is kept even at personal cost; courage is quiet and practical — carrying food at night, answering wisely, comforting the old. A person's character is shown not in speeches but in what they do when nobody is watching and when danger is near.
Grammar — verbs, tenses, gerunds and infinitives: verbs show action or state; tenses place them in time (present, past, future). A gerund (verb + -ing as noun: Carrying food at night was dangerous) and an infinitive (to carry) can both follow verbs, but the choice can change the meaning. The unit also practises sentence usage and dictionary work with context clues.
Writing — narrative writing: tell a true or imagined story in order — setting, characters, problem, events, ending — using past tenses and time connectors (then, suddenly, finally). The unit's oral work is an interview role-play: one student plays Hazrat Asma (RA) and another the interviewer.
The book presents Hazrat Asma (RA) without a single modern author — the lesson is a textbook biography drawn from Islamic history. Her title Zaat-un-Nitaqain is itself the lesson in one word: when there was no rope, she used her own belt, then tore it in two — one part to tie the food, one to tie the water-skin. Her son Abdullah bin Zubair (RA) said he had never seen anyone more generous and open-hearted than his aunt Ayesha (RA) and his mother.
Exam tip: the belt story, the Abu Jehl slap, and the pebbles for her grandfather are the three most-asked incidents.
Exercise Questions — with Answers (from the library masters). The English textbook prints no answer keys, so these answers are the masters' model answers, not official keys, and are kept as written in the masters. Only the Reading and Critical Thinking questions from the masters are reproduced here as Q&A; vocabulary drills, oral communication and other writing tasks are not reproduced as separate Q&A — this unit's grammar point and writing skill are explained in Section 4 and its glossary in Section 2.
When no rope was available, she tore her own belt to tie the food — resourcefulness. Then, every night, she carried provisions quietly through rugged mountains to the cave of Thawr despite the fear of being detected — courage. Both acts were done alone, at night, in enemy territory.
جب رسی نہ ملی تو انہوں نے اپنی پٹی پھاڑ کر کھانا باندھا — یہ تدبیر تھی؛ اور ہر رات پہاڑوں سے گزر کر غار ثور تک کھانا پہنچانا — یہ بہادری تھی۔
Today, trust means keeping secrets, returning lost property, and being honest even when cheating is easy — for example, a student who does not leak an exam paper, or a shopkeeper who returns extra money. Integrity, like Asma's (RA), is doing the right thing when nobody is watching.
آج امانت کا مطلب راز رکھنا، گمشدہ چیز واپس کرنا اور آسان دھوکے کے باوجود ایماندار رہنا ہے — جیسے طالب علم کا پرچہ لیک نہ کرنا۔
Challenges: (1) preparing food with nothing to tie it — solved with her own belt; (2) reaching Thawr nightly through dangerous mountains — solved with courage and silence; (3) Abu Jehl's interrogation — met with a wise counter-question, not the secret; (4) her grandfather's anxiety about the family's wealth — eased with pebbles under cloth. Each challenge was met with quick thinking, not force.
چیلنجز: کھانا باندھنے کو کچھ نہ ہونا (پٹی سے حل)، رات کو خطرناک پہاڑوں سے گزرنا (بہادری سے حل)، ابو جہل کی پوچھ گچھ (دانشمندانہ جواب سے حل)، دادا کی پریشانی (کنکریوں سے حل)۔
Her father and the Rasoolullah (PBUH) trusted her with the secret of the cave and the supply line. She kept the secret under threat, delivered food on time every night, and never betrayed the route. Without her supplies and silence, the stay at Thawr could not have succeeded.
والد اور رسول اللہ ﷺ نے غار کے راز اور رسد کی ذمہ داری ان پر چھوڑی؛ انہوں نے دھمکی کے باوجود راز رکھا اور ہر رات وقت پر کھانا پہنچایا۔
Self-discipline meant doing a frightening job regularly, quietly and without complaint: preparing food, walking at night, controlling fear, and answering Abu Jehl calmly instead of panicking. Because she controlled herself, she controlled the situation — one careless word or one missed night could have endangered everyone.
ضبط نفس کا مطلب خوفناک کام کو باقاعدگی، خاموشی اور شکایت کے بغیر کرنا تھا؛ اسی خود پر قابو نے انہیں حالات پر قابو دیا۔
She respected herself by refusing to be bullied into betrayal — she answered Abu Jehl politely but firmly. She respected others by serving her father and the Rasoolullah (PBUH) faithfully, and by honouring her blind grandfather's feelings instead of dismissing them. Respect, in this lesson, is dignity plus service.
انہوں نے ابو جہل کے سامنے جھکے بغیر شائستگی سے جواب دے کر اپنی عزت رکھی، اور والد، رسول اللہ ﷺ اور نابینا دادا کی خدمت کر کے دوسروں کا احترام کیا۔
Though Abu Quhafaa had not accepted Islam, she did not argue with him or distress him: she placed pebbles where the money had been and covered them, so that when he touched them he felt relieved that wealth had been left behind. This matches Islamic teaching — kindness to parents and elders regardless of their faith — and shows that respect is not limited to those who agree with us.
اگرچہ دادا مسلمان نہ تھے، انہوں نے انہیں پریشان کرنے کے بجائے کنکریوں سے تسلی دی؛ یہ اسلامی تعلیم کے مطابق ہے کہ والدین اور بزرگوں سے حسن سلوک ان کے عقیدے سے مشروط نہیں۔
Correct answer: b. keeping the secret of her father's whereabouts. Preparing food showed generosity and service; keeping the secret under Abu Jehl's threat was the direct test of trust.
This chapter is the lesson on Hazrat Asma (RA): daughter of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique (RA), wife of Hazrat Zubair bin al-Awwam (RA) and mother of Hazrat Abdullah bin Zubair (RA), and one of the early few who accepted Islam. Its centre is the Hijrah: when no rope was available she tore her own belt to tie the food — Zaat-un-Nitaqain — and carried provisions by night to the cave of Thawr. It covers the glossary, the theme of integrity and valour, verbs and tenses, and the heroine herself. The exercise is Reading and Critical Thinking questions with answers.
Revision guidance: Answer every Hijrah question with a concrete deed, not a general quality: the torn belt, the night journeys, the rugged mountains. Resourcefulness and courage are proved by those deeds — that is what the first exercise question asks for.
