Source note / ذریعہ نوٹ: This revised page is built from the existing PunjabTest library chapter for this unit (the masters call it “Unit 6”). The official Class 9 English textbook was not on disk for this build, so no official-book page coverage is claimed here and no official-book page numbers are given; no official status is claimed for the questions below, which are from the library masters, with the masters' model answers (the English textbook prints no answer keys). Urdu headings and the Urdu line on the banner are supplied translations for study help — the English textbook prints no Urdu subtitle.

ENGLISH

Taseer is a cheerful, kind-hearted boy whose one flaw is poor time management. He procrastinates over video games, chatting with friends and daydreaming while his schoolwork and chores pile up, and his grades and relationships suffer.

His grandfather teaches him with a jar: the big rocks are the important things (schoolwork, family, health), the pebbles are hobbies and friendships, and the sand is the trivial things. Taseer first pours in the sand, then the pebbles — and the big rocks will not fit. Put the big rocks in first, and everything else finds room. Taseer builds a schedule, puts first things first, improves his grades, becomes more reliable for family and friends, and shares the lesson with his classmates.

3. Theme and Message
🏷 Tags: theme, time management, plot, exposition, climax, resolution
ENGLISH

Theme: Soft skills — time management. The story is built on plot development: exposition (Taseer and his habit), rising action (work piles up), climax (the jar demonstration), falling action (the new schedule), resolution (better grades and relationships).

Message: Time cannot be saved or bought back; it can only be spent wisely. Putting small things first leaves no room for what matters — but the reverse is also true: first things first, and even a busy day has room for play. Good time management reduces stress, because deadlines stop arriving as surprises.

Exposition→Rising action→Climax: thejar→Resolution
Plot samjho: Exposition (Taseer aur us ki aadat), rising action (kaam ka dher), climax (martaban ka muzahira), falling action (naya schedule) aur resolution (behtar grades aur rishtay).

4. Grammar Point + Writing Skill
🏷 Tags: grammar, conjunctions, FANBOYS, subordinating, correlative, transitions
ENGLISH

Grammar — conjunctions and transition words: co-ordinating conjunctions join equal ideas (FANBOYS: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so); subordinating conjunctions join a dependent clause to a main clause (because, although, if, when); correlative pairs work together (both/and, either/or, neither/nor, not only/but also). Transition words (moreover, meanwhile, therefore, furthermore, in addition) connect sentences and show relationships between ideas.

Writing — story writing with editing and proofreading: brainstorm setting and characters, plan the plot (beginning, middle, end), draft, then edit for plot and proofread for errors — exactly the process Taseer follows for his schedule, applied to writing.

اردو

گرامر — حروف عطف اور ربط والے الفاظ: ربطی حروف برابر خیالات کو جوڑتے ہیں (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so)؛ تابع حروف ایک منحصر شق کو اصل جملے سے جوڑتے ہیں (because, although, if, when)؛ جوڑے والے حروف ساتھ کام کرتے ہیں (both/and, either/or, neither/nor)۔ ربط والے الفاظ (moreover, meanwhile, therefore) جملوں کو جوڑتے اور خیالات کا تعلق ظاہر کرتے ہیں۔

FANBOYS→Subordinating→Correlativepairs→Transitions
Haroof-e-atf samjho: FANBOYS برابر خیال جوڑتے ہیں, subordinating (because, although, if, when) dependent clause جوڑتا ہے, اور correlative جوڑے (both/and, either/or) ہمیشہ جوڑے میں آتے ہیں.

5. About the Lesson
🏷 Tags: lesson, jar illustration, grandfather, ordinary boy, seen example
ENGLISH

This is a textbook story written for the book — no single author is named in the unit. Its teaching device, the jar of rocks, is a well-known time-management illustration used in classrooms around the world: it works because it can be seen. Taseer is deliberately ordinary — cheerful and kind — so that the reader recognises himself in the flaw, not only in the success.

Exam tip: the jar order (rocks → pebbles → sand) and the five plot stages are asked as both short questions and as a summary point.

You can seeit→Order matters→Small thingsfit→Big thingsdon't

📝 Exercise with Answers

Exercise Questions — with Answers (from the library masters). The English textbook prints no answer keys, so these answers are the masters' model answers, not official keys, and are kept as written in the masters. Only the Reading and Critical Thinking questions from the masters are reproduced here as Q&A; vocabulary drills, oral communication and other writing tasks are not reproduced as separate Q&A — this unit's grammar point and writing skill are explained in Section 4 and its glossary in Section 2.

1. How had Taseer wasted his time before he visited his grandfather?

Answer / جواب

He procrastinated: he spent hours on video games, chatting with friends and daydreaming, while his schoolwork and chores piled up. He knew the work was waiting but kept putting it off until deadlines arrived.

2. In what way did the poor time management affect Taseer's performance?

Answer / جواب

His grades fell because homework was rushed or incomplete, and he felt stressed and out of control as deadlines approached. His relationships also suffered, because family and friends found him unreliable — he promised help but had no time left.

3. How did Taseer fill the jar?

Answer / جواب

He first poured in the sand, then the pebbles, so when he tried to add the big rocks they would not fit. His grandfather then emptied the jar and showed the correct order: big rocks first, then pebbles, then sand — and everything fitted.

4. Why did his grandfather decide to help Taseer?

Answer / جواب

Because he saw that Taseer was a good boy whose only problem was habit, not ability or character: he was cheerful and kind, but his time management was harming his studies and his peace of mind. A grandfather's practical demonstration could teach what scolding could not.

5. What is the impact of accurate time management on Taseer's performance?

Answer / جواب

He felt more in control and less stressed about deadlines, his grades improved, and he had more time for family and friends, who found him more reliable — while his parents were proud of his progress. In short, the same 24 hours began to produce better work and better relationships.

6. How does the story of Taseer conclude? What does Taseer learn by the end, and how does it impact his relationships and responsibilities?

Answer / جواب

It concludes with Taseer following a daily schedule and sharing the jar lesson with his classmates. He learns that priorities must come first: schoolwork, family and health before entertainment. His responsibilities are met on time, so trust returns — his parents are proud and his friends can rely on him.

ENGLISH

This chapter is Taseer's story: a cheerful, kind-hearted boy whose one flaw is poor time management — video games, chatting and daydreaming while schoolwork and chores pile up, until his grandfather's jar demonstration changes him. Put the big rocks in first, then pebbles, then sand, and everything fits. It covers the glossary, plot development, conjunctions and transition words, and the jar illustration itself. The exercise is Reading and Critical Thinking questions with answers.

Revision guidance: Retell the jar in order and in reverse: sand first and the big rocks will not fit — that contrast is the whole lesson in one image. Then sort conjunctions into coordinating (FANBOYS), subordinating and correlative before you touch the exercise.
