This revised page was built from the existing Class 9 Mathematics library chapter (chapter-1-complete-guide-book.html) in the same series. No official Class 9 Mathematics book copy was on disk for a fresh page-by-page check (the books are with the user), so no book page numbers are claimed and the exercise below is carried over from the master chapter as given — selected solved questions plus SLO-based practice MCQs — not newly verified against the book and not presented as the official exercise. Answers follow the master chapter. All section figures on this page are self-made diagrams (no book pictures).
People have counted for thousands of years. The Sumerians (1900–4500 BCE) used a sexagesimal (base 60) system; the Egyptians (2000–3000 BCE) used a decimal (base 10) system; the Romans (500 BCE–500 CE) used letters I, V, X, L, C, D, M for 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000.
The Indians (500–1200 CE) gave the world the concept of zero (0) and the decimal place-value system. The Arabs (800–1500 CE) carried these numerals to Europe — so today we call them Indo-Arabic numerals (0–9). Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi (9th century) laid the groundwork of algebra.
The set of real numbers (R) is the combination of rational and irrational numbers. A rational number can be written as p/q (q ≠ 0); its decimal is terminating or non-terminating recurring, e.g. 1/2 = 0.5, 1/3 = 0.333…
An irrational number cannot be written as p/q; its decimal is non-terminating and non-recurring, e.g. √2 = 1.414213…, π = 3.141592… Every point on the number line is a real number, and between any two real numbers there is another real number — this is the density property.
For real numbers a, b, c: reflexive a = a; symmetric if a = b then b = a; transitive if a = b and b = c then a = c. The same ideas hold for order: if a < b and b < c then a < c.
Inequality rules: adding or subtracting the same number keeps the sign; multiplying or dividing by a positive number keeps the sign, but multiplying or dividing by a negative number reverses the sign. Example: −2 < 3, multiply by −1 → 2 > −3.
حقیقی اعداد a، b، c کے لیے: انعکاسی a = a؛ تماثلی اگر a = b تو b = a؛ متعدی اگر a = b اور b = c تو a = c۔ ترتیب کے لیے بھی یہی اصول ہیں: اگر a < b اور b < c تو a < c۔
Laws of indices (a ≠ 0): am × an = am+n; am ÷ an = am−n; (am)n = amn; a0 = 1; a−n = 1/an; am/n = n√(am).
A radical expression uses √. Simplify by splitting into squares: √50 = √(25×2) = 5√2. To rationalise a denominator, multiply top and bottom by the conjugate: 1/(√5+√2) = (√5−√2)/(5−2) = (√5−√2)/3.
قوت نما کے قوانین (a ≠ 0): am × an = am+n؛ am ÷ an = am−n؛ (am)n = amn؛ a0 = 1؛ a−n = 1/an؛ am/n = n√(am)۔
