This revised page was built from the existing Class 9 Mathematics library chapter (chapter-4-complete-guide-book.html) in the same series. No official Class 9 Mathematics book copy was on disk for a fresh page-by-page check (the books are with the user), so no book page numbers are claimed and the exercise below is carried over from the master chapter as given — selected solved questions plus SLO-based practice MCQs — not newly verified against the book and not presented as the official exercise. Answers follow the master chapter. All section figures on this page are self-made diagrams (no book pictures).

1. Common Factors and Trinomials

ENGLISH

Factorization breaks an expression into factors whose product is the original expression — the reverse of expansion. First look for a common factor: in 6x² + 9x, the common factor is 3x, so 6x² + 9x = 3x(2x + 3). Always take out the common factor first.

A trinomial x² + px + q factors by finding two numbers with product q and sum p: x² + 7x + 12 = (x + 3)(x + 4) because 3 × 4 = 12 and 3 + 4 = 7. The book also shows this concretely and pictorially, with algebra tiles/area models.

2. Factorising Quadratics: Squares and Difference of Squares
🏷 Tags: factorising, quadratics, squares, difference
ENGLISH

Three patterns cover most quadratics: (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b²; (a − b)² = a² − 2ab + b²; and a² − b² = (a − b)(a + b). Recognise them by sight: x² + 10x + 25 = (x + 5)²; 9x² − 16 = (3x − 4)(3x + 4).

For x² + px + q with a leading coefficient, e.g. 2x² + 7x + 3, split the middle term: 2x² + 6x + x + 3 = 2x(x + 3) + 1(x + 3) = (2x + 1)(x + 3). Always check by expanding back.

اردو

تین نمونے زیادہ تر دو درجی جملوں کا احاطہ کرتے ہیں: (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b²؛ (a − b)² = a² − 2ab + b²؛ اور a² − b² = (a − b)(a + b)۔ انہیں دیکھتے ہی پہچانیں: x² + 10x + 25 = (x + 5)²؛ 9x² − 16 = (3x − 4)(3x + 4)۔

(3x)² − 4² = (3x − 4)(3x + 4)a² − b² = (a − b)(a + b)
Difference of squares samjho: jab donon terms perfect squares hon aur darmiyan minus ho, to seedha ye formula lagao.
3. Factorising Cubics
🏷 Tags: factorising, cubics
ENGLISH

Cubic patterns: a³ + b³ = (a + b)(a² − ab + b²); a³ − b³ = (a − b)(a² + ab + b²); and the full cubes (a + b)³ = a³ + 3a²b + 3ab² + b³, (a − b)³ = a³ − 3a²b + 3ab² − b³.

Example: 8x³ − 27 = (2x)³ − 3³ = (2x − 3)(4x² + 6x + 9). Watch the signs: in a³ − b³ the second factor has all plus signs; in a³ + b³ the middle term is minus.

اردو

تین درجی نمونے: a³ + b³ = (a + b)(a² − ab + b²)؛ a³ − b³ = (a − b)(a² + ab + b²)؛ اور مکمل مکعب (a + b)³ = a³ + 3a²b + 3ab² + b³، (a − b)³ = a³ − 3a²b + 3ab² − b³۔

a³ − b³ = (a − b)(a² + ab + b²)دوسرے factor میں سب plus

4. HCF and LCM of Algebraic Expressions
🏷 Tags: hcf, lcm, algebraic, expressions
ENGLISH

Factor each expression first, then: HCF = product of the common factors with their lowest powers; LCM = product of all factors with their highest powers. Example: x² − 4 = (x−2)(x+2) and x² + 4x + 4 = (x+2)² give HCF = (x+2) and LCM = (x−2)(x+2)².

Relationship: for two expressions A and B, A × B = HCF × LCM — the same law as for numbers. This is used to simplify algebraic fractions and to solve equations efficiently.
