This revised page was built from the existing Class 9 Mathematics library chapter (chapter-7-complete-guide-book.html) in the same series. No official Class 9 Mathematics book copy was on disk for a fresh page-by-page check (the books are with the user), so no book page numbers are claimed and the exercise below is carried over from the master chapter as given — selected solved questions plus SLO-based practice MCQs — not newly verified against the book and not presented as the official exercise. Answers follow the master chapter. All section figures on this page are self-made diagrams (no book pictures).

1. Distance Formula

ENGLISH

For points P(x₁, y₁) and Q(x₂, y₂), the distance comes from Pythagoras applied to the horizontal and vertical gaps: PQ = √((x₂−x₁)² + (y₂−y₁)²).

Example: P(1, 2), Q(4, 6): PQ = √((3)² + (4)²) = √(9+16) = 5 — a 3-4-5 triangle. The formula also locates positions on maps: longitude and latitude are coordinates of the same idea.

xyA(1, 2)B(4, 6)distance = 5
4. Equations of a Straight Line
🏷 Tags: equations, straight, line
ENGLISH

The book derives all the standard forms. Slope-intercept: y = mx + c (m gradient, c y-intercept). Point-slope: y − y₁ = m(x − x₁). Two-point: use the two points to find m, then point-slope. Intercepts form: x/a + y/b = 1. Symmetric and normal forms express the same line with direction cosines / perpendicular distance from the origin.

A linear equation in two variables always represents a straight line: its graph is the set of all (x, y) satisfying it. The general form ax + by + c = 0 can be reduced to any of the above forms by algebra.

xyy-intercept cy = mx + c — m = gradient, c = y-intercept
