1. 📖 Women's Rights in Islam — Qur'an and Sunnah

ENGLISH SUMMARY

Islam is a religion of nature. According to its teachings, all human beings are equal in terms of basic rights. All human beings are descendants of Hazrat Adam (علیہ السلام). Islam does not discriminate between men and women on the basis of gender. Almighty Allah considers them both as His creatures.

The Holy Qur'an and the Hadith contain a large number of commands that determine the position, importance and rights of women in Islam. Almighty Allah says (Surah An-Nisa, 4:1): “O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Hazrat Adam), and from him He created his wife (Hawwa), and from them both He created many men and women (spread all over the world).”

“Woman” is a word that refers to human beings with respect and honour, whose existence has added colour to the universe. All religions, including Islam, condemn all forms of violence against women. Islam has entrusted women with important responsibilities in all walks of life, including government, politics and leadership.

4. ⚠️ Violence Against Women — Definition and Impact
🏷 Tags: violence, against, women, definition, impact

ENGLISH SUMMARY

Violence is behaviour involving physical force intended to hurt, damage or kill someone. Violence against women means any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm to a woman — including threats, coercion and deprivation of liberty, in public or private life.

Its impact on Pakistani society is deep: it harms the victim's health, dignity and freedom, breaks families, and holds back the whole society. Under the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan, human beings have the right to live as free and equal members of society. As long as women suffer inequality and abuse, they cannot achieve their rightful place. Silence against crimes committed against women gives rise to endless crimes, so it is the duty of every citizen to support victims and report such cases to the relevant authorities.

Short 1. Describe the rights of women in the light of an Ayah of the Holy Qur'an.

Answer / جواب

Surah An-Nisa (4:1) says mankind was created from a single person, and from him his wife, and from them both many men and women were spread over the world. This establishes that men and women share one origin, equal human dignity and equal basic rights; Islam therefore gives women rights of life, honour, education, property and respect, and forbids discrimination on the basis of gender.

Short 2. Describe the rights of women in the light of one hadith of the beloved Rasool ﷺ.

Answer / جواب

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Fear Allah in matters relating to women.” He also taught that the best among people are those who are best to their wives and families, and that paradise lies under the feet of mothers — giving women honour, protection and a high status in family and society.

Short 3. Write the names of the three women who participated in the Movement of Pakistan.

Answer / جواب

Any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm to a woman, including threats, coercion and deprivation of liberty, in public or in private life.

Short 5. What is the legal minimum age of marriage of a boy and a girl in Punjab?

Answer / جواب

According to the book: girl — 16 years (MCQ answer). For a boy the legal minimum age is 18 years.

Section 4: Detailed Questions

Long 1. Explain the rights of women in Islam in the light of the Qur'an and Sunnah.

Answer / جواب

Islam gives women equal basic rights: one origin (Surah An-Nisa 4:1), dignity and honour, and no discrimination by gender. The Qur'an and Sunnah give women rights in life, marriage, property, inheritance, education and public life, and entrust them with responsibilities in government, politics and leadership. The Prophet's teaching — “Fear Allah in matters relating to women” — and the honour given to mothers show the high status Islam gives to women. All forms of violence against women are condemned.

Long 2. Discuss the role of women in the Pakistan Movement.

Answer / جواب

Women worked side by side with men: Fatima Jinnah stood with the Quaid throughout the struggle; Begum Ra'ana Liaquat Ali Khan organized women and welfare work; Begum Jahanara Shahnawaz and Begum Shaista Ikramullah led women's organizations; Lady Nusrat Haroon took part wholeheartedly in the Khilafat Movement. They created public awareness, mobilized women, and kept the demand for Pakistan alive in every home.

Long 3. Discuss the role of women in the development of Pakistan.

Answer / جواب

Since 1947 women have served in politics, government, education, health, law, media, sports and welfare. Benazir Bhutto became the first woman Prime Minister; Bilquis Edhi's welfare work changed millions of lives; Samina Baig carried Pakistan's flag to Everest. Women's growing participation in every field is a major force in Pakistan's development, and their empowerment — through education and legal protection — is essential for national progress.

Long 4. Highlight Government's efforts to eliminate violence against women in Pakistan.

Answer / جواب

The government has legislated protection (Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act, 24 February 2016), set up protection centres and shelters, appointed Women Protection Officers in all districts of Punjab, and provided the toll-free helpline 1043 and SMS 8787 to Punjab Police for complaints. It has also joined international commitments — the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and CEDAW (1979) — for equal rights and the elimination of discrimination against women. Citizens are urged to report cases instead of staying silent.
