This revised page was built from the existing Class 9 Physics library chapter (chapter-9-complete-guide-book.html) in the same series. No official Class 9 Physics book copy was on disk for a fresh page-by-page check, so no book page numbers are claimed and the exercise is carried over from the master chapter as given, not newly verified against the book. Answers follow the master chapter. The master exercise for this chapter has Sections A–D only (no numerical section); it is carried over as-is and no numerical section has been invented.
The scientific method is a specific, systematic approach to searching for the truth about a natural phenomenon or event. Its main steps are: observation (noticing something, e.g. 'the colour of a door is brown' is an observation), asking a question, forming a hypothesis (a possible answer), experimentation (testing it), analysing data (a graph of organised data is an example of analysing data), theory, prediction (an 'if… then…' statement, e.g. 'if I do not study for this test, then I will not get a good grade' is a prediction) and law.
Observation, experimentation and research are all methods of investigation. A small amount of data cannot prove a prediction always correct — but a single contrary result can prove it is not always correct. That asymmetry is the heart of science.
Hypothesis: a possible answer to a question — a testable, tentative explanation. It must be testable: if a hypothesis is not testable, it cannot be scientific, and it cannot be proved right or wrong by experiment. Theory: a logical explanation of causes and effects, formed after a hypothesis is successfully verified by experiment. A theory is not an 'ultimate truth': theories can be modified or rejected when new evidence arrives.
Law: when a theory has been tested many times and is generally accepted as true, it is called a law — a statement about how nature behaves that explains past observations and predicts others (e.g. from 'light travels in a straight line' we predict the shape of shadows: a ball gives a round shadow, a rectangular block a rectangular one). Theories and laws of Physics are man-made ideas about how things work, liable to be disproved or modified with future advances.
Falsifiability means a theory is scientific only if it makes predictions that can be tested and potentially proven false. It is important because it separates genuine scientific theories from untestable beliefs: a theory that can be proved right but can never be proved wrong is not a scientific theory.
That is why scientists welcome tests that could disprove their ideas: surviving many attempts at falsification is what makes a theory strong. A theory is rejected or modified when experiments contradict its predictions, or when a better explanation fits the evidence. The general reaction to new ideas about established truths has often been resistance at first — but evidence, not authority, decides in the end.
