In 619–620 CE, in the 10th year of his prophethood and about three years before the Migration, Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ travelled on foot to Taif with his adopted son Hazrat Zayd bin Haritha, after losing his protectors Abu Talib and Khadijah and facing a severe boycott in Makkah. He needed spiritual peace, consolation and moral support to deliver the message of Tawheed (Oneness of Allah).
Taif's chiefs — Abd Yalail, Mas'ud and Habeeb, brothers of the tribe of Banu Thaqeef — mocked and rejected him. When he preached to the people, the chiefs set slaves and street children to chase him and pelt him with stones until he bled; his shoes filled with blood and clotted, making it hard to remove them for ablution.
Taking refuge in an orchard belonging to Utba and Shayba, he was sent grapes by their Christian slave Addaas. On hearing 'Bismillah', Addaas was surprised; learning the Prophet ﷺ was a Rasool like Hazrat Yunus bin Matta of his own city Nineveh, he kissed his head, hands and feet. Later, though offered destruction of Taif by the Angel of the Mountains, the Prophet ﷺ chose forgiveness, hoping Allah would bring believers from their descendants.

The book's own theme box states it plainly: unwavering faith, patience and compassion in the face of extreme hardship and rejection. The journey shows the struggles that often accompany truth and reform — ridicule, insult and physical harm — yet the Prophet ﷺ remained steadfast and hopeful.
Two moments carry the message: Addaas shows how sincerity and truth can touch hearts even in difficult circumstances; the prayer (dua) after injury shows humility and deep reliance on Allah. The refusal to curse Taif — choosing forgiveness over vengeance — is the lesson's climax and its moral for students: answer cruelty with patience, not revenge.
Grammar — Idioms and proverbs: An idiom is a phrase whose meaning is not the sum of its words (e.g. 'to bear the brunt' = to suffer the worst part). A proverb is a short traditional saying giving advice (e.g. 'Patience is a virtue'). The unit asks students to use contemporary idioms and proverbs in different texts and in speech — pick idioms that fit the situation, not just any idiom.
Writing — Clear and coherent writing: Development, organisation and style must match the task, purpose and audience. Plan first (opening, ordered points, closing), link sentences with connectors (however, therefore, for example), and keep one idea per paragraph.
Oral skill: Correct pronunciation with appropriate pitch and voice variation — a loud, urgent tone for a dramatic moment ('Stop! Don't go in there!'), a soft tone for sadness.
