ENGLISH

Earth is the planet where human life exists, and it is endangered by abrupt climate change. Saving the Earth is our utmost duty to future generations — “it is high time to take climate action.” Climate action means efforts by individuals, governments and organizations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to changing climates, and protect the environment. It is not only environmental, but also a social, economic and moral responsibility demanding urgent, collective action.

Causes (para 2): since the Industrial Revolution, burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) releases carbon dioxide (CO2); agriculture, deforestation and industry add methane and nitrous oxide. These greenhouse gases trap heat — global warming.

Effects (para 3): glaciers melting at alarming rates → rising sea levels threatening coastal communities; more frequent, intense hurricanes, floods, heatwaves and wildfires; unpredictable rainfall and droughts hitting farmers, food production and hunger in vulnerable regions.

Justice (para 4): climate change disproportionately affects poor and developing countries, though they contribute least — they lack resources to recover or adapt. So climate action is a matter of justice and fairness, not only science.

Response (paras 5–8): the Paris Agreement (2015) — almost every country committed to limiting warming to well below 2°C, aiming for 1.5°C, by cutting emissions, investing in renewable energy and improving efficiency. Businesses shift to sustainable practices and clean technology; movements mobilized millions. Individuals help by reducing energy use, recycling, avoiding single-use plastics, using public transport, eating less meat, supporting eco-friendly brands and planting trees. Education and awareness are the keys.

Hope + warning (paras 9–11): emissions still rise and some industries resist change for profit — but solar, wind, electric vehicles and carbon capture are getting cheaper, young people are joining in, and climate action is now “a global conversation rather than a fringe concern”. Conclusion: climate action is no longer optional; “the choices we make today will shape the world of tomorrow.”

3. 💡 Theme & Message
🏷 Tags: theme, justice, global cooperation, individual responsibility
ENGLISH

Theme box (p.41): “The urgent need for global cooperation and individual responsibility to combat climate change and protect the planet for future generations.”

Two levels, always together: global (Paris Agreement, businesses, clean technology) AND individual (daily choices). An answer that mentions only governments, or only recycling, is half an answer. The lesson's moral core: climate action is a moral responsibility — the poor suffer most though they pollute least, so fairness demands action from those who pollute most and from everyone else too.

Hope, not despair: the closing note is deliberately hopeful — technology is cheaper, youth are involved, and “the opportunity to act is still in our hands.”

4. ✍️ Grammar Point + Writing Skill
🏷 Tags: sequencing events, narrator, point of view, story structure
ENGLISH

Figures of Speech (pp.43–44): Euphemism — a polite or mild way of saying something unpleasant (e.g. “passed away” instead of “died”). Oxymoron — two opposite words together for effect (e.g. “deafening silence”). Book paragraph practice (“The climate crisis is a ‘silent killer’… ‘a ticking time bomb’… ‘deafening silence’ from those in power”): the euphemism is the soft phrase “climate action” itself, used to make a complex, urgent problem sound manageable; the oxymoron is “deafening silence” — silence that is loud because powerful people refuse to act. “Silent killer” and “ticking time bomb” create an urgent, alarming tone — danger creeping up while we stay “blissfully unaware”.

Writing — Techniques to Sequence Events (pp.46–47): (i) Engage and orient the reader; (ii) set out a problem, situation or observation early; (iii) show its significance; (iv) establish point(s) of view (first/third person, multiple); (v) introduce narrator and/or characters; (vi) create a smooth progression without confusing jumps. Model opening: “I still remember the day the power went out across the city…” (problem + character Aliya + significance: how fragile routines are). Tasks: write a first paragraph that introduces a problem, hints why it matters, and includes a character; study the Amna mystery-letter story (beginning–middle–ending) and write your own mystery-based short story; rewrite a flat start (“I woke up and got ready for school”) into an engaging one.

Oral skill: dialogue “Our Climate, Our Responsibility” (Ayaan & Zara) — then a class debate/panel on “What does climate change mean to you personally?” and a presentation “Climate Talk: Speak Up for the Planet!”.

اردو

مجازی زبان (صفحہ 43-44): تلطیف (Euphemism) — ناخوشگوار بات کو شائستہ یا نرم انداز میں کہنا (مثلاً ”died“ کے بجائے ”passed away“)۔ تضاد (Oxymoron) — دو مخالف الفاظ ایک ساتھ اثر کے لیے (مثلاً ”deafening silence“)۔ کتاب کے پیراگراف کی مشق (”The climate crisis is a ‘silent killer’… ‘a ticking time bomb’… ‘deafening silence’ from those in power“): تلطیف خود نرم فقرہ ”climate action“ ہے، جس سے پیچیدہ، فوری مسئلہ قابل انتظام لگتا ہے؛ تضاد ”deafening silence“ ہے — ایسی خاموشی جو بلند ہے کیونکہ طاقتور لوگ عمل کرنے سے انکار کرتے ہیں۔ ”silent killer“ اور ”ticking time bomb“ فوری، خطرے والا لہجہ بناتے ہیں — خطرہ آہستہ آہستہ قریب آ رہا ہے جبکہ ہم ”بے خبری میں خوش“ ہیں۔

زبانی مہارت: مکالمہ ”Our Climate, Our Responsibility“ (ایان اور زارا) — پھر کلاس مباحثہ ”What does climate change mean to you personally?“ اور پریزنٹیشن ”Climate Talk: Speak Up for the Planet!“۔

Sequence events — 6 steps1. Engage & orient the reader2. Problem / situation early3. Show its significance4. Point of view (1st / 3rd person)5. Narrator + characters6. Smooth progression, no jumps

A. Reading and Critical Thinking — Answer the following questions (p.42)
QUESTIONS + ANSWERS
1. What is climate action, according to the essay?

Answer: Efforts by individuals, governments and organizations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to changing climates, and protect the environment — a social, economic and moral responsibility, not just an environmental issue.

2. Mention at least two human activities that contribute to climate change.

Answer: Burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) for energy; agriculture, deforestation and industrial processes producing methane and nitrous oxide.

3. Name the two negative effects of climate change mentioned in the essay. (Any two from the essay count.)

Answer: Melting glaciers and rising sea levels threatening coastal communities; more frequent/intense hurricanes, floods, heatwaves and wildfires; unpredictable rainfall and droughts harming farming, food production and increasing hunger.

4. What is the purpose of the Paris Agreement?

Answer: Signed in 2015, almost every country committed to limiting global warming to well below 2°C, with efforts to keep it below 1.5°C — by reducing carbon emissions, investing in renewable energy and improving energy efficiency.

5. Give an example of how individuals can take part in climate action.

Answer: Reducing energy use, recycling, avoiding single-use plastics, using public transport, eating less meat, supporting eco-friendly brands, planting trees, and spreading awareness / supporting climate policies.

6. Why do you think that climate change is our moral responsibility?

Answer: Opinion question with a book-based answer: because it is about justice — the poor and developing countries suffer most though they contribute least, and today's choices decide future generations' survival. Acting is therefore a moral duty, not just a technical fix.

7. Why are the poor countries more vulnerable to the effects of climate change, even though they pollute less?

Answer: They often lack the money, infrastructure and resources to protect themselves, recover from disasters (floods, droughts) or adapt to environmental changes — so the same disaster harms them far more.

C. Figures of Speech in Context (p.44)
QUESTIONS + ANSWERS
1. Can you identify the euphemism in the paragraph? What does it imply about how the topic is being framed?

Answer: The soft phrase 'climate action' itself is used as a euphemism — it frames a complex, urgent crisis as if it had a simple, manageable solution, softening how serious it sounds.

2. What is the oxymoron used in the paragraph? How does it create a contrast or emphasize a point?

Answer: 'Deafening silence' — silence (quiet) + deafening (extremely loud). The contrast stresses that the silence of those in power is itself loud and shameful: they refuse to act until the worst happens.

3. Why does the writer use figures of speech like 'silent killer' and 'ticking time bomb'? How do they affect the tone?

Answer: They make an invisible, slow danger feel urgent and frightening: a killer that creeps up unnoticed, a bomb whose ticking we hear but whose danger we have 'not fully realized'. The tone becomes alarming and urgent — time is running out, yet the need for change 'remains tragically ignored'.

ENGLISH

This chapter is the essay on the Earth and acting now for tomorrow: fossil fuels and greenhouse gases, melting glaciers, floods and droughts, and the injustice that poor countries suffer most while polluting least. It covers the climate glossary, the theme of shared responsibility, six steps for sequencing events, and the author note, ending with reading questions, seven MCQs and figures of speech in context.

Revision guidance: First memorise the cause-to-action chain, then the five climate words. The figures-of-speech section is easy marks if you match each example to its device instead of guessing from the word alone.
