ENGLISH

This unit is the poem Little Things by Julia A. Carney. It teaches us that little things make a big difference: little drops of water make the mighty ocean, little grains of sand make the pleasant land, little deeds of kindness make our earth an Eden, and little words of love make the heaven above. Never look down upon little things.

1. The Poem: Little Thingsنظم: چھوٹی چھوٹی چیزیں
🏷 Tags: poem, little things, ocean, sand, kindness, Julia A. Carney
ENGLISH

The poem says: Little drops of water, little grains of sand, make the mighty ocean and the pleasant land. So the little moments, humble though they may be, make the mighty ages of eternity. So the little errors lead the soul away, from the paths of virtue into sin to stray. Little deeds of kindness, little words of love, make our earth an Eden, like the heaven above.

The message is beautiful: everything great is made of little things. A mighty ocean is just many little drops together, and a kind world is just many little deeds of kindness together. So we should never ignore little things, little moments and little deeds.

اردو

نظم کہتی ہے: Little drops of water, little grains of sand, make the mighty ocean and the pleasant land. So the little moments, humble though they may be, make the mighty ages of eternity. So the little errors lead the soul away, from the paths of virtue into sin to stray. Little deeds of kindness, little words of love, make our earth an Eden, like the heaven above.

2. Words and Meaningsالفاظ اور معنی
🏷 Tags: eternity, pleasant, mighty, stray, rhyming words, map directions
ENGLISH

Eternity means infinite or unending time. Pleasant means enjoyable. Mighty means very large and powerful, and stray means to lose direction.

Find and write pairs of rhyming words in the poem: water / daughter? sand / land, be / eternity, away / stray, love / above. Then read the given map and write correct directions using the direction key: Direction of the post office from the school, direction of the hospital from the playground, direction of the police station from the hospital.

Direction of the post office from the school, direction of the hospital from the playground, direction of the police station from the hospital.

New WordsEternity→Pleasant→Mighty
الفاظ samjho: نئے الفاظ معنی کے ساتھ یاد کرو اور نظم سے ہم قافیہ جوڑیاں نکالو۔
3. Stress, Rhythm and Speakingزور، آہنگ اور بولنا
🏷 Tags: stress, rhythm, intonation, signs, body language, non-verbal
ENGLISH

Stress, rhythm and intonation make our speech beautiful: we say some words louder (stress), we speak with a regular beat (rhythm), and our voice rises and falls (intonation). Read the given stanza with correct pronunciation: Now another day is breaking, birds are sweet and flowers are waking, dear Lord, I promised you last night, never again to sulk or fight.

In speaking, look at the given signs and read what they say: signs for celebration, angry and counselling. Then get into pairs and let one student perform an action or express an emotion by looking at his/her body language, while the other guesses it. Body language is a form of non-verbal communication.

اردو

زور، آہنگ اور لہجہ ہماری گفتگو کو خوبصورت بناتے ہیں: کچھ الفاظ زور سے بولتے ہیں (stress)، باقاعدہ آہنگ سے بولتے ہیں (rhythm)، اور آواز اوپر نیچے ہوتی ہے (intonation)۔ دیا گیا بند درست تلفظ سے پڑھو: Now another day is breaking, birds are sweet and flowers are waking, dear Lord, I promised you last night, never again to sulk or fight.

بولنے میں دیے گئے اشارے (signs) دیکھو اور پڑھو کہ وہ کیا کہتے ہیں: celebration, angry اور counselling کے اشارے۔ پھر جوڑوں میں ایک طالب علم کوئی عمل کرے یا جسمانی زبان سے احساس ظاہر کرے، اور دوسرا اسے پہچانے۔ جسمانی زبان غیر زبانی بات چیت کی ایک شکل ہے۔

Speak ClearlyStress→Rhythm→Intonation
بولنا samjho: زور، آہنگ اور لہجے سے نظم پڑھو اور جسمانی زبان سے احساس ظاہر کرو۔
4. Grammar: Question Words, Simple Future, Kinds of Sentences, Do/Doesگرامر: سوالیہ الفاظ، سادہ مستقبل، جملوں کی اقسام، Do/Does
🏷 Tags: question words, who, what, where, when, why, how, future tense, will, shall, commands, exclamatory, do, does
ENGLISH

Question words ask for information: who, what, where, when, why, how, how many, how much. How many asks about the number of countable nouns (How many people work in his company?) and how much asks about the price of uncountable nouns (How much sugar would you like in your tea?). Fill in the blanks with the correct wh-question words.

Simple future tense shows actions that will happen later: Subject + will/shall + base form of verb. They will water the plants. She will not go to school tomorrow. It will rain tomorrow. Will he plant a new tree? I will play football with my friends. Kinds of sentences: instructions (Fry the onion for 5-7 minutes. Take your medicine before sleeping.), commands (Clean your room.) and exclamatory sentences (What a lovely waterfall! Wow, you won a gold medal! What a cold day!). Do / does ask questions: Do you play hide and seek? Yes, we play hide and seek. Does she like Italian food? Yes, she likes it very much. Does he work in a bank? Yes, he does.

اردو

سوالیہ الفاظ معلومات مانگتے ہیں: who, what, where, when, why, how, how many, how much۔ How many گنے جانے والی چیزوں کی تعداد پوچھتا ہے (How many people work in his company?) اور how much نہ گنی جانے والی چیزوں کی قیمت پوچھتا ہے (How much sugar would you like in your tea?)۔ درست سوالیہ الفاظ سے خالی جگہیں پُر کرو۔

سادہ مستقبل بعد میں ہونے والے کاموں کو ظاہر کرتا ہے: Subject + will/shall + base form of verb۔ They will water the plants. She will not go to school tomorrow. It will rain tomorrow. Will he plant a new tree? I will play football with my friends. جملوں کی اقسام: ہدایات (Fry the onion for 5-7 minutes. Take your medicine before sleeping.)، احکام (Clean your room.) اور تعجبیہ جملے (What a lovely waterfall! Wow, you won a gold medal! What a cold day!)۔ Do / does سے سوال پوچھتے ہیں: Do you play hide and seek? Yes, we play hide and seek. Does she like Italian food? Yes, she likes it very much. Does he work in a bank? Yes, he does.

Grammar Focuswho / what→will / shall→do / does
گرامر samjho: سوالیہ الفاظ، سادہ مستقبل، جملوں کی اقسام اور do/does کے جملے بناؤ۔

Read the central idea of the poem Little Things: The poem highlights the importance of little things. It teaches us that little things are not useless. Therefore, we should not look down upon little things. Everything has its own importance, no matter how little it may be. Now write the central idea of the third stanza in your notebook.

Everything has its own importance, no matter how little it may be. اب تیسری بند کا مرکزی خیال کاپی میں لکھو۔

پھر ہم قافیہ الفاظ کی چار جوڑیاں لکھو اور ان سے اپنی پسندیدہ چیز (جیسے کھلونے یا کتابیں) پر سادہ نظم لکھو۔ نظم میں ہجے، اوقاف اور بڑے حروف درست رکھو۔
