Unit 5 celebrates our amazing planet: hills, rivers, lakes, plains, deserts and mountains. We learn to protect the environment, because this planet is our only home.
یونٹ 5 ہمارے حیرت انگیز سیارے کا جشن مناتا ہے: پہاڑیاں، دریا، جھیلیں، میدان، صحرا اور پہاڑ۔ ہم ماحول کی حفاظت سیکھتے ہیں، کیونکہ یہ سیارہ ہمارا واحد گھر ہے۔
This unit teaches us through a story or a text, and we practise reading, speaking and writing about it.
Read the text slowly, look at the pictures, and guess the meaning of new words before asking the teacher.
Read this unit like a map, not a list: hills are not just a word, they are where you climb; rivers are where water runs; deserts are where rain rarely falls; mountains are where the air turns cold. Give each landform a place you know — Thar for desert, Hunza for mountains — and the list becomes a country you can walk through in your mind.
Then ask the unit's moral question in your own words: if this planet is our only home, what does a child do about it? The answer is in the exercise — plant, save, do not litter, switch off — and it is smaller than a speech and bigger than a poster.
Learn the new words of this unit with their meanings and use each word in your own sentence.
Keep a word bank in your notebook: word, meaning, and one sentence. Revise it every week.
planet — a large round world in space; our planet is Earth. Example: Earth is our only planet.
desert — a very dry land with little rain. Example: The Thar is a desert in Pakistan.
protect — to keep safe from harm. Example: We must protect trees and rivers.
amazing — wonderful and surprising. Example: Our planet is amazing.
Grammar: prefixes. 'Un-' means not (unhappy = not happy); 're-' means again (rewrite = write again).
We learn words with similar meanings (synonyms) and punctuation: full stops, commas and question marks.
Prefixes are the cheapest way to make new words: un- turns a word into its opposite, so kind becomes unkind and happy becomes unhappy; re- means again, so write becomes rewrite; dis- disagrees, so agree becomes disagree. Cover the second half of each word and guess the meaning before you look — that guessing is the learning.
Punctuation is the same idea for sentences: a full stop ends a thought, a comma lets it breathe — hills, rivers and lakes — and a question mark turns it into a question. Read the comma sentence aloud twice, once without pausing and once with, and you will hear why commas exist.
Every unit ends with a message for life. Think about how you can follow that message at home and at school.
Practise writing a short paragraph on the unit's theme: one topic sentence, three supporting sentences, and one ending sentence.
A paragraph describing a beautiful place needs three senses, not three adjectives: what the mountains look like, what the river sounds like, what the air feels like. Hunza works as a model because it gives all three — tall mountains to see, a clear river to hear, fresh air to breathe — and your place should give three senses too.
End with a feeling, not a fact: visitors love its fresh air and kind people is a feeling, and it is why the paragraph stays in the reader's mind after the facts fade.
Revise with your hands: write un-, re- and dis- on three cards, and under each write two words it makes. Then write the four landforms from the short question and one way children protect each — plant for forests, save for water, bins for litter, switches for light.
The chapter's test is not whether you love the planet in words; it is whether you can name what to do on Monday morning. Keep the answer small and daily.
Exercise Questions — with Answers (from the library masters). These are SLO-based practice questions from the library masters, NOT the textbook's printed exercise — use your school book for the printed exercise. The English textbook prints no answer keys, so these answers are the masters' model answers, not official keys, and are kept as written in the masters. The chapter has 4 multiple-choice, 4 short-answer, 2 long-answer and 2 think-and-answer questions — all 12 are attended below.
