This revised page was built from the existing Class 6 Mathematics library master chapter (chapter-9-complete-guide-book.html) in the same series. No official Class 6 Mathematics book copy was on disk for a fresh page-by-page check, so no book page numbers are claimed and the exercise below is the master chapter's own SLO-based practice set — NOT the official textbook exercise (the master itself labels it SLO-based, not copied from the book). Section explanations and answers follow the master chapter; nothing has been invented to fill gaps.
An equation is a statement that two expressions are equal, joined by =. Example: x + 5 = 12. The letter is the unknown; solving means finding its value.
An equation is like a balance scale: both sides must stay equal. Whatever we do to one side, we must do to the other.
To solve x + 5 = 12, undo the +5 by subtracting 5 from both sides: x = 12 − 5 = 7. Check: 7 + 5 = 12. Correct!
For 3x = 21, undo ×3 by dividing both sides by 3: x = 7. For x − 4 = 9, add 4 both sides: x = 13.
3x = 21 کے لیے ×3 کو دونوں طرف 3 سے تقسیم کر کے ختم کریں: x = 7۔ x − 4 = 9 کے لیے دونوں طرف 4 جمع کریں: x = 13۔
Two-step equations need two inverse operations, in reverse order: for 2x + 3 = 11, first subtract 3 (2x = 8), then divide by 2 (x = 4).
Check: 2(4) + 3 = 11. Correct! Always check by putting the answer back into the original equation.
First expand brackets: 2(x + 3) = 14 → 2x + 6 = 14 → 2x = 8 → x = 4. Or divide first: x + 3 = 7 → x = 4. Both ways agree.
Choose the easier path: if the bracket has a common factor with the other side, dividing first saves a step.
Steps: (1) Let the unknown be x. (2) Write the equation from the words. (3) Solve. (4) Check and answer in words.
Example: "A number added to 8 gives 20" → x + 8 = 20 → x = 12. "5 times a number is 35" → 5x = 35 → x = 7.

This chapter turns algebra into solving: what an equation is, the inverse-operation method, two-step equations, equations with brackets, and turning stories into equations. The balance picture is the whole method — keep both sides equal at every step and the answer cannot go far wrong.
Revision guidance: Always check a solution by putting it back into the original equation; if the two sides do not match, the mistake is in the last undoing step — redo just that step.
