Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Quaid-e-Azam (Great Leader), was born in Karachi on 25 December 1876. A brilliant lawyer, he first worked for Hindu-Muslim unity, then concluded that Muslims needed a separate homeland to protect their faith, culture and rights.
Through the Muslim League, and with the famous slogan of the Pakistan Movement, he led a peaceful, constitutional struggle that ended in the creation of Pakistan on 14 August 1947.
Jinnah was famous for honesty: as a lawyer he never took a case he believed was unjust, and he never used public money for himself. He was firm — once he decided a thing was right, no pressure moved him — yet always polite and constitutional in method.
His motto for the nation, Faith, Unity, Discipline, was also the rule of his own life: faith in the cause, unity of the people, and discipline in work and conduct.
The Pakistan Movement grew from the Two-Nation Theory: Muslims and Hindus were two separate nations with different religions, laws, heroes and cultures. The Lahore Resolution of 23 March 1940 demanded separate states for Muslims.
Jinnah united Muslims of all provinces and classes behind one demand. His speeches were logical, calm and legal — he won Pakistan at the negotiating table, not on the battlefield.
Articles are small words with big jobs: 'a' and 'an' for any one thing ('a leader', 'an honest man'), 'the' for a known or special thing ('the Quaid', 'the nation'). Use 'an' before vowel sounds: 'an hour', 'an honest lawyer'.
No article is used for most names and for general ideas: 'Jinnah loved justice.' — not 'the justice' when we mean justice in general.
آرٹیکلز چھوٹے الفاظ ہیں جن کا کام بڑا ہے: 'a' اور 'an' کسی ایک چیز کے لیے ('a leader'، 'an honest man')، 'the' معلوم یا خاص چیز کے لیے ('the Quaid'، 'the nation')۔ مصوت آوازوں سے پہلے 'an' آتا ہے: 'an hour'، 'an honest lawyer'۔
Students learn three practical lessons: work hard and honestly, respect the law, and keep unity above personal or provincial differences. Jinnah worked even when ill, because the nation needed him.
The lesson ends by asking students what they would do to make Pakistan match the Quaid's dream: a country where every citizen, whatever their faith, is equal before the law.
Key points to remember — 1. The Man Who Made a Nation, 2. Character: Honest, Firm, Hardworking, 3. The Pakistan Movement and 4. Grammar Focus: Articles. These four topics are the chapter's take-away ideas: read them in order, then close the page and say them back from memory.
Exercise Questions — with Answers (from the library masters). These are SLO-based practice questions from the library masters, NOT the textbook's printed exercise — use your school book for the printed exercise. The English textbook prints no answer keys, so these answers are the masters' model answers, not official keys, and are kept as written in the masters. The chapter has 5 multiple-choice, 3 short-answer, 2 long-answer and 1 Think question — all 11 are attended below.
Karachi — Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born in Karachi on 25 December 1876.
Faith, Unity, Discipline — Faith, Unity, Discipline — the words on Pakistan's national emblem spirit.
1940 — The Lahore Resolution of 23 March 1940 demanded separate Muslim states.
He was ___ honest man.'
an — 'Honest' begins with a vowel sound, so 'an' is used.
negotiation and constitutional struggle — His method was legal and constitutional — speeches, elections and negotiation.
That Muslims and Hindus were two separate nations with different religions, cultures and heroes, needing separate homelands.
As a lawyer he refused cases he believed unjust, and he never used public money for personal use.
Quaid led ___ nation to freedom.'
The Quaid led the nation to freedom.
The Quaid led the nation to freedom.
His honesty won trust, his firmness kept the demand steady under pressure, and his legal, peaceful method kept the movement united and respectable.
Faith: believe in your goal. Unity: work together, not in groups against each other. Discipline: regular study, punctuality, respect for rules.
Because a diverse country stays united only when minorities feel safe and equal; discrimination breaks unity, and unity was the Quaid's own first condition for progress.
Quaid-e-Azam, born in Karachi on 25 December 1876, won Pakistan through honesty, firmness and hard work, guided by the Two-Nation Theory and the Lahore Resolution of 1940. The chapter also teaches articles — a, an, the — and three practical lessons for students.
