Eid-ul-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, is celebrated on the 10th of Zil Hajj, at the end of the Hajj pilgrimage. Muslims remember the obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.), who was ready to sacrifice his beloved son Ismail (A.S.) on Allah's command, and how Allah replaced the sacrifice with a ram.
The festival is a lesson in obedience, trust in Allah, and sharing: the sacrificed animal's meat is divided into three parts — for the family, for relatives and friends, and for the poor.
Eid-ul-Adha falls during Hajj, when millions of Muslims gather at Makkah. Pilgrims stand at Arafat, stay at Muzdalifah, and throw pebbles at Mina — acts that retrace the story of Ibrahim (A.S.) and his family.
Muslims who are not on Hajj celebrate at home: they pray the Eid prayer in congregation, wear new or best clothes, visit relatives, and share food and greetings of 'Eid Mubarak'.
Key words: 'sacrifice' (giving up something precious for Allah), 'obedience' (doing what is commanded), 'pilgrimage' (a holy journey) and 'congregation' (people praying together). Students practise them in sentences about their own Eid.
Countable and uncountable nouns appear here: 'three goats' (countable) but 'some meat' (uncountable) — we say 'a piece of meat', not 'a meat'.
اہم الفاظ: 'sacrifice' (اللہ کے لیے قیمتی چیز قربان کرنا)، 'obedience' (حکم ماننا)، 'pilgrimage' (مقدس سفر) اور 'congregation' (لوگوں کا مل کر نماز پڑھنا)۔ طلبہ انہیں اپنی عید کے بارے میں جملوں میں استعمال کرتے ہیں۔
قابل شمار اور ناقابل شمار اسم یہاں آتے ہیں: 'three goats' (قابل شمار) لیکن 'some meat' (ناقابل شمار) — ہم 'a piece of meat' کہتے ہیں، 'a meat' نہیں۔
Countable nouns can be counted (one goat, two goats) and take 'many' and 'a few'. Uncountable nouns cannot be counted (water, meat, happiness) and take 'much' and 'a little': 'much water', 'a little meat'.
Common mistakes: 'many meats' is wrong; say 'much meat' or 'many pieces of meat'. 'Fewer' is for countable ('fewer guests'), 'less' for uncountable ('less sugar').
قابل شمار اسم گنے جا سکتے ہیں (one goat, two goats) اور ان کے ساتھ 'many' اور 'a few' آتے ہیں۔ ناقابل شمار اسم نہیں گنے جا سکتے (water, meat, happiness) اور ان کے ساتھ 'much' اور 'a little' آتے ہیں: 'much water'، 'a little meat'۔
عام غلطیاں: 'many meats' غلط ہے؛ 'much meat' یا 'many pieces of meat' کہیں۔ 'Fewer' قابل شمار کے لیے ('fewer guests') اور 'less' ناقابل شمار کے لیے ('less sugar')۔
Eid is not only new clothes and good food. Its spirit is gratitude to Allah, forgiveness between people, and care for the poor — the meat shares make sure poor families also eat well on Eid day.
Students are asked to write about their own Eid: who they visited, what they shared, and one person they forgave or helped. A festival remembered only as food misses its meaning.
Key points to remember — 1. The Festival of Sacrifice, 2. Hajj and Eid Together, 3. Vocabulary: Words of the Festival and 4. Grammar Focus: Countable and Uncountable Nouns. These four topics are the chapter's take-away ideas: read them in order, then close the page and say them back from memory.
یاد رکھنے کے اہم نکات اس باب کی بنیادی باتیں ہیں: قربانی کا تہوار, حج اور عید ایک ساتھ, الفاظ: تہوار کے الفاظ, گرامر: قابل شمار اور ناقابل شمار اسم۔ ان نکات کو ترتیب سے پڑھیں، پھر صفحہ بند کر کے انہیں یاد سے دہرائیں۔

عید الاضحیٰ منائی جاتی ہے…
10th Zil Hajj — Eid-ul-Adha falls on 10 Zil Hajj, at the end of Hajj.
عید الاضحیٰ 10 ذی الحجہ کو حج کے اختتام پر آتی ہے۔
قربانی کا گوشت تقسیم ہوتا ہے…
three parts — One part for the family, one for relatives and friends, one for the poor.
ایک حصہ خاندان، ایک رشتہ داروں اور دوستوں اور ایک غریبوں کے لیے۔
کون سا ناقابل شمار اسم ہے؟
meat — Meat cannot be counted directly; we count pieces of meat.
گوشت براہ راست نہیں گنا جا سکتا؛ ہم گوشت کے ٹکڑے گنتے ہیں۔
درست شکل چنیں: 'There is ___ sugar in the tea.'
much — Sugar is uncountable, so 'much' is used.
چینی ناقابل شمار ہے، اس لیے 'much' آتا ہے۔
عید الاضحیٰ کی کہانی کس کی اطاعت یاد دلاتی ہے؟
Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) — Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) was ready to sacrifice his son on Allah's command.
حضرت ابراہیم علیہ السلام اللہ کے حکم پر اپنے بیٹے کی قربانی کے لیے تیار ہو گئے تھے۔
عید الاضحیٰ کو قربانی کا تہوار کیوں کہتے ہیں؟
Because it remembers Ibrahim's (A.S.) readiness to sacrifice and Muslims sacrifice an animal following his example.
کیونکہ یہ حضرت ابراہیم علیہ السلام کی قربانی کی آمادگی کو یاد کرتی ہے اور مسلمان ان کی مثال پر جانور قربان کرتے ہیں۔
جملہ درست کریں: 'We have many meats for Eid.'
We have much meat for Eid. / We have many pieces of meat for Eid.
We have much meat for Eid. / We have many pieces of meat for Eid. (meat ناقابل شمار ہے)
حاجی عرفات میں کیا کرتے ہیں؟
They stand in prayer and worship — the most important rite of Hajj.
وہ دعا اور عبادت میں ٹھہرتے ہیں — حج کا سب سے اہم رکن۔
بیان کریں کہ آپ کا خاندان عید الاضحیٰ کیسے مناتا ہے، گوشت کے تین حصوں سمیت۔
A good answer covers Eid prayer, the sacrifice, the three shares (family, relatives/friends, poor), visits, and greetings — showing the festival's spirit of sharing.
اچھا جواب عید کی نماز، قربانی، تین حصوں (خاندان، رشتہ دار/دوست، غریب)، ملاقاتوں اور مبارکباد کا احاطہ کرتا ہے — بانٹنے کی روح دکھاتا ہے۔
غریبوں سے گوشت بانٹنا دعوت سے زیادہ کیوں اہم ہے؟
Because the sacrifice is about obedience and care, not eating: sharing makes sure everyone, rich or poor, celebrates Eid with dignity.
کیونکہ قربانی اطاعت اور دیکھ بھال کے بارے میں ہے، کھانے کے بارے میں نہیں: بانٹنا یقینی بناتا ہے کہ امیر یا غریب، سب عزت سے عید منائیں۔
ایک ہم جماعت عید پر بہت کھانا ضائع کرتا ہے۔ سبق کے پیغام سے آپ کیا کہیں گے؟
Eid teaches sharing and gratitude, not waste: food saved or shared with a poor neighbour honours the sacrifice far more than a full dustbin.
