In 'Watan ke Liye', Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi prays for Pakistan's lasting prosperity. He asks that the 'harvest of hope' planted here never face decline, that its greenery never fade, and that every citizen rise above grief and dishonour.
The poem is a dua (prayer) in verse: every stanza repeats the same heartfelt prayer for the homeland's soil, so the poem feels like hands raised together.
The poem's central image is a harvest: hope is a crop planted in the homeland's soil. Like a crop, hope needs care — water, work, patience — and like a crop, it can wither if neglected.
Greenery stands for life, peace and prosperity: a green land is a living land. When the poet prays for greenery, he prays for a country that stays alive and hopeful.
Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi (1916–2006) was a beloved Pakistani poet and writer, known for poems that mix love of country with love of ordinary people. His language is clear and emotional, without difficult showiness.
He wrote many poems for Pakistan, including the closing Dua of this book (Lesson 20) — the book opens and closes with his prayers for the homeland.
A dua poem asks Allah for something good. Its marks: it addresses Allah directly or by implication, it wishes good for others (not only the poet), and it repeats its wish so the feeling grows.
Students practice writing their own two-line dua for Pakistan — one line for what they wish, one line for whom they wish it (farmers, students, soldiers, the poor).
The poem's deeper message: hope is not a feeling only — it is a duty. Citizens must protect the 'harvest' by working honestly, keeping peace, and refusing despair. Despair is the real enemy of a nation.
For students, the message is personal: never let your own harvest — your studies, your dreams — wither. Water it daily with work.

That it never faces decline or withering — He prays the harvest of hope never faces decline.

That no one remains grief-stricken or in a poor condition — He wishes every citizen rises above grief and dishonour.
life, peace and prosperity — A green land is a living, hopeful land.
a dua (prayer) in verse — Every stanza repeats a heartfelt prayer for the homeland.
Hope planted in the homeland's soil — the nation's dreams and efforts, which need care like a crop.
Repetition grows the feeling and makes the poem feel like hands raised together in prayer.
A good dua has one line for the wish and one line for whom it is wished (e.g. farmers, students, the poor).
A harvest needs water, work and patience; neglect, despair and dishonesty wither it. So the nation's hope needs honest work and peace, and dies from neglect and despair.
Feelings come and go, but duties are done daily: protecting hope means working, keeping peace and refusing despair even when one feels low — that is why the poem prays and then expects action.
The poem's prayer is not a substitute for work — it is the spirit behind work: pray for the harvest, then water it with honest work, peace and refusal of despair. Prayer without work is empty, but work without hope withers.
The poem's deeper message: hope is not a feeling only — it is a duty. Citizens must protect the 'harvest' by working honestly, keeping peace, and refusing despair. Despair is the real enemy of a nation.
