1. How Elements are Arranged
🏷 Tags: periodic table, atomic number, periods, rows, groups, columns, outer electrons
ENGLISH

The periodic table arranges all known elements by increasing atomic number. Rows are called periods and columns are called groups. Elements in the same group have similar properties because they have the same number of electrons in their outer shell.

Table ki tarteeb samjho: Elements are arranged by increasing atomic number; rows are periods, columns are groups, and the same group means similar properties.
2. Metals and Non-metals
🏷 Tags: metals, non-metals, metalloids, shiny, conductors, malleable, ductile, silicon
ENGLISH

Metals (left and centre of the table) are shiny, good conductors of heat and electricity, malleable and ductile — e.g. iron, copper, aluminium. Non-metals (right side) are usually dull, poor conductors and brittle — e.g. oxygen, sulphur. Metalloids like silicon are in between.

Metals vs non-metals samjho: Position in the table predicts properties — metals (left, centre) are shiny conductors, non-metals (right) are dull and brittle.
3. Groups: Alkali Metals, Halogens, Noble Gases
🏷 Tags: alkali metals, Group 1, halogens, Group 17, noble gases, Group 18, reactivity
ENGLISH

Group 1 alkali metals (lithium, sodium, potassium) are very reactive. Group 17 halogens (fluorine, chlorine) are reactive non-metals. Group 18 noble gases (helium, neon, argon) have full outer shells and hardly react at all.

4. Periodic Trends and Uses
🏷 Tags: periodic trends, metals to non-metals, copper, aluminium, chlorine, helium, uses
ENGLISH

Going across a period, elements gradually change from metals to non-metals. The table helps scientists predict a new element's properties and find elements for jobs: copper for wires, aluminium for cans, chlorine for cleaning water, helium for balloons.

Long Answer Questions
LONG + ANSWERS

5.1 Explain why elements in the same group behave alike, using sodium and potassium as an example.

Answer / جواب

Answer: Both are Group 1 metals with one outer electron, which they lose easily — so both react vigorously with water and form similar compounds.

5.2 A new element is placed in Group 17. Predict three of its properties and justify each from the table.

Answer / جواب

Answer: Reactive non-metal; forms salts with metals; poor conductor — all are halogen-group properties.

ENGLISH SUMMARY

Arrangement (1): the periodic table arranges all known elements by increasing atomic number; rows are periods and columns are groups, and elements in the same group have similar properties because they have the same number of outer-shell electrons. Metals and non-metals (2): metals (left and centre) are shiny, good conductors, malleable and ductile — iron, copper, aluminium; non-metals (right) are usually dull, poor conductors and brittle — oxygen, sulphur; metalloids like silicon are in between. Groups (3): Group 1 alkali metals (lithium, sodium, potassium) are very reactive, Group 17 halogens (fluorine, chlorine) are reactive non-metals, and Group 18 noble gases (helium, neon, argon) have full outer shells and hardly react. Trends and uses (4): across a period, elements gradually change from metals to non-metals; the table predicts properties and helps choose elements — copper for wires, aluminium for cans, chlorine for cleaning water, helium for balloons.

Revision guidance: تین groups (1, 17, 18) کی مثالیں اور وجہ یاد کرو (outer electrons), پھر long question 5.1 میں sodium-potassium کی مثال سے “same group, same behaviour” سمجھاؤ.
