This revised page was built from the existing Class 8 Mathematics library master chapter (chapter-1-complete-guide-book.html) in the same series. No official Class 8 Mathematics book copy was on disk for a fresh page-by-page check, so no book page numbers are claimed and the exercise below is the master chapter's own SLO-based practice set — NOT the official textbook exercise (the master itself labels it SLO-based, not copied from the book). Section explanations and answers follow the master chapter; nothing has been invented to fill gaps.

1. The Real Number System
🏷 Tags: real, number, system
ENGLISH

Real numbers include natural numbers (1, 2, 3, …), whole numbers (0, 1, 2, …), integers (…, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, …), rational numbers (fractions like 3/4) and irrational numbers (like √2, π) that cannot be written as a simple fraction.

2. Properties of Addition and Multiplication
🏷 Tags: properties, addition, multiplication
ENGLISH

Commutative: a + b = b + a and a × b = b × a. Associative: grouping does not matter: (a + b) + c = a + (b + c). Distributive: a(b + c) = ab + ac. These laws let us rearrange calculations to make them easier.

اردو

تبدیلی: a + b = b + a اور a × b = b × a۔ تلازم: گروہ بندی سے فرق نہیں پڑتا: (a + b) + c = a + (b + c)۔ تقسیمی: a(b + c) = ab + ac۔ یہ قوانین حساب کو آسان بنانے کے لیے ترتیب بدلنے دیتے ہیں۔

3. Absolute Value
🏷 Tags: absolute, value
ENGLISH

The absolute value of a number is its distance from zero, so it is never negative: |−8| = 8 and |8| = 8. Absolute value is used for distances, differences and errors, where direction does not matter, only size.

Absolute value|−8| = 8→|8| = 8→Distance from 0Absolute value
Figure samjho: Absolute value is always zero or positive.
4. Rational and Irrational Numbers
🏷 Tags: rational, irrational, numbers
ENGLISH

A rational number can be written as p/q (q ≠ 0); its decimal either ends or repeats, e.g. 1/3 = 0.333… A irrational number cannot be written as p/q; its decimal never ends and never repeats, e.g. √3, π.

Multiple Choice Questions
1.1 Which is an irrational number?

Answer: (c) √3 — it cannot be written as p/q.

1.2 |−8| equals:

Answer: (b) 8

1.3 Commutative property of multiplication says:

Answer: (a) a×b = b×a جواب: a×b = b×a۔

1.4 Which is a whole number but not a natural number?

Answer: (c) 0

1.5 Distributive law: 2(3+4) =

Answer: (b) 14 جواب: 14 = 6 + 8۔

Short Answer Questions
1.1 Define rational number with an example.

Answer: A number writable as p/q, q≠0, e.g. 3/4.

1.2 Find |−15| and |15|.

Answer: Both are 15.

1.3 State the distributive property with numbers.

Answer: a(b+c) = ab+ac, e.g. 2(3+4) = 14. جواب: a(b+c) = ab+ac، مثلاً 2(3+4) = 14۔

1.4 Is 0.333… rational? Why?

Answer: Yes — it repeats, and equals 1/3.

Long Answer Questions
1.1 Classify these numbers as natural, whole, integer, rational or irrational: −5, 0, 7, 2/3, √5, 0.25, and explain each.

Answer: −5 integer; 0 whole; 7 natural; 2/3 rational; √5 irrational; 0.25 rational (1/4).

1.2 Use the laws of real numbers to simplify (a) 13×7 + 13×3 and (b) 25 + 17 + 75, showing which law you used.

Answer: (a) 13(7+3) = 130, distributive. (b) 25+75+17 = 117, commutative + associative.
