This revised page was built from the existing Class 6 Mathematics library master chapter (chapter-12-complete-guide-book.html) in the same series. No official Class 6 Mathematics book copy was on disk for a fresh page-by-page check, so no book page numbers are claimed and the exercise below is the master chapter's own SLO-based practice set — NOT the official textbook exercise (the master itself labels it SLO-based, not copied from the book). Section explanations and answers follow the master chapter; nothing has been invented to fill gaps.

1. What are 3D Solids?
🏷 Tags: what, solids
ENGLISH

A 3D solid has length, width and height — it occupies space. It has faces (flat surfaces), edges (where faces meet) and vertices (corners).

2D shapes (square, circle) are flat; 3D solids (cube, sphere) can be held. A net is a flat pattern that folds into a solid.

2. Cube and Cuboid
🏷 Tags: cube, cuboid
ENGLISH

Cube: 6 square faces, 12 edges, 8 vertices; all edges equal. Cuboid: 6 rectangular faces, 12 edges, 8 vertices; opposite faces equal.

Volume of cuboid = length × width × height. Volume of cube = side³. Surface area of cube = 6 × side²; of cuboid = 2(lb + bh + hl).

3. Cylinder, Cone and Sphere
🏷 Tags: cylinder, cone, sphere
ENGLISH

Cylinder: 2 circular faces and a curved surface (like a tin). Volume = πr²h; curved surface = 2πrh. Cone: 1 circular base and a pointed top; volume = (1/3)πr²h.

Sphere: perfectly round like a ball; every point on the surface is the same distance from the centre. Volume = (4/3)πr³; surface area = 4πr².

4. Volume in Daily Lifeروزمرہ زندگی میں حجم
🏷 Tags: volume, daily, life
ENGLISH

Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³, m³) or litres (1 litre = 1000 cm³). A water tank, a box, a room — all hold a volume.

Example: a tank 2 m × 1 m × 1 m holds 2 m³ = 2000 litres of water. Always keep units the same before multiplying.

5. Surface Area
🏷 Tags: surface, area
ENGLISH

Surface area is the total area of all faces — the wrapping paper needed to cover a solid. For a cube of side 3 cm: 6 × 9 = 54 cm².

Painting a room, wrapping a gift, or covering a box all need surface area, not volume. Knowing which one a question asks is half the answer.

SUMMARY

This chapter leaves flat shapes behind and measures solids: what 3D shapes are and how their nets fold, cubes and cuboids, cylinders, cones and spheres, volume as everyday capacity, and surface area. If you can picture the solid — or its net — the formula usually follows.

  • 1. What are 3D Solids?: A 3D solid has length, breadth and height — faces, edges and vertices are its parts, and a net is the flat shape that folds into it.
  • 2. Cube and Cuboid: A cube has all edges equal and a cuboid has three different edges — their volumes are side³ and length × breadth × height.
  • 3. Cylinder, Cone and Sphere: A cylinder's volume is πr²h, a cone's is one-third of that, and a sphere's is 4/3 πr³ — the cone–cylinder link is worth remembering.
  • 4. Volume in Daily Life: Volume in daily life is capacity: tanks, boxes and bottles — convert litres and cubic centimetres carefully (1 litre = 1000 cm³).
  • 5. Surface Area: Surface area is the total area of all faces — for a cuboid it is 2(lb + bh + hl), and for a cube 6 × side².

Revision guidance: Sketch the solid and its net before choosing a formula, write the units as cubic units for volume and square units for surface area, and convert litres only at the end.
