This revised page was built from the existing Class 6 Mathematics library master chapter (chapter-4-complete-guide-book.html) in the same series. No official Class 6 Mathematics book copy was on disk for a fresh page-by-page check, so no book page numbers are claimed and the exercise below is the master chapter's own SLO-based practice set — NOT the official textbook exercise (the master itself labels it SLO-based, not copied from the book). Section explanations and answers follow the master chapter; nothing has been invented to fill gaps.

1. Positive and Negative Numbers
🏷 Tags: positive, negative, numbers
ENGLISH

Integers are ..., −3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ... Negative numbers are less than zero. They describe temperature below zero, floors below ground, and debts.

On the number line, positives go right of 0 and negatives left. The further left, the smaller: −5 < −2 < 0 < 3.

Integers… −2, −1→0→1, 2 …→Left = smaller
Figure samjho: Negatives left of zero, positives right; left means smaller.
2. Absolute Value
🏷 Tags: absolute, value
ENGLISH

The absolute value of a number is its distance from zero, always non-negative: |−5| = 5 and |5| = 5.

Absolute value ignores the sign. It is useful for distances and differences: the difference between −3°C and 2°C is 5 degrees.

Absolute valueDistance from 0→|−5| = 5→Always ≥ 0→Ignores sign
Figure samjho: Absolute value: distance from zero, never negative.
3. Adding and Subtracting Integers
🏷 Tags: adding, subtracting, integers
ENGLISH

Same signs: add and keep the sign: (−3) + (−4) = −7. Different signs: subtract the smaller absolute value from the larger, and keep the sign of the larger: (−7) + 4 = −3.

Subtracting an integer means adding its opposite: 5 − (−3) = 5 + 3 = 8; −2 − 4 = −6. Think of the number line: adding a negative moves left.

Add / SubtractSame sign: add→Different:subtract→Minus a minus: +→Number line
Figure samjho: Same signs add; different signs subtract; minus a negative is plus.
4. Multiplying and Dividing Integers
🏷 Tags: multiplying, dividing, integers
ENGLISH

Same signs give positive: (−3) × (−4) = 12; 12 ÷ 3 = 4. Different signs give negative: (−3) × 4 = −12; 12 ÷ (−3) = −4.

Rule in short: like signs → positive, unlike signs → negative. This holds for both multiplication and division.

Multiply / DivideLike: +→Unlike: −→− × − = +→− ÷ + = −
Figure samjho: Like signs positive, unlike signs negative — for × and ÷.
5. Integers in Daily Lifeروزمرہ زندگی میں صحیح اعداد
🏷 Tags: integers, daily, life
ENGLISH

Bank: a deposit is +500, a withdrawal is −200; balance = 500 − 200 = 300. Temperature: from −2°C rising by 5° gives 3°C. Lift: ground floor 0, basement −1, −2.

Always write the sign carefully — a missing minus sign changes profit into loss!

Daily integersBank +/−→Temperature→Lift floors→Careful signs
Figure samjho: Deposits, temperatures and floors all use integers.

SUMMARY

This chapter takes numbers below zero seriously: what integers are, what absolute value really means, how to add, subtract, multiply and divide with signs, and where negative numbers show up in daily life. The number line is the friend that keeps every sign rule honest.

  • 1. Positive and Negative Numbers: Integers run both ways from zero: positives to the right, negatives to the left, and zero sits in the middle as neither.
  • 2. Absolute Value: Absolute value is just distance from zero — it is never negative, whatever sign the number itself carries.
  • 3. Adding and Subtracting Integers: Adding integers is moving on the number line; subtracting is adding the opposite — that one rule removes most sign mistakes.
  • 4. Multiplying and Dividing Integers: Multiplying and dividing follow the sign rule: same signs give positive, different signs give negative.
  • 5. Integers in Daily Life: Temperature, money owed, floors below ground and sea level are all everyday integers — read the sign from the situation, not from habit.

Revision guidance: For every integer question, sketch the number line move first — especially for subtraction — and finish by asking whether the sign of your answer makes sense in the story.
