The story follows a curious young boy who finds an old map in his grandfather's trunk and decides to follow it. The map promises a hidden valley, but the path crosses a river, a forest and a hill — and the boy must use his wits at every step.
Adventure stories work by mixing curiosity with danger: the reader wants to know what lies beyond the next bend, just as the boy does.
At the river, the bridge is broken. The boy does not panic: he uses a fallen tree as a bridge and tests each step. In the forest, he marks trees with chalk so he can find his way back — a lesson in planning ahead.
On the hill, he helps a lost traveller instead of rushing on, and the traveller later shows him a shortcut. Kindness, the story suggests, is also a survival skill.
Key words: 'curious' (eager to learn), 'brave' (not giving in to fear), 'route' (the way taken), 'treasure' (something precious, not always gold). The hidden valley's real treasure turns out to be a spring of clean water for the village — a useful treasure.
Students learn that 'adventure' itself comes from a Latin word meaning 'about to happen' — adventure is what happens when you step out of routine.
Four sentence types appear in the story: statements ('He found a map.'), questions ('Where does the river go?'), commands ('Mark the trees!') and exclamations ('What a beautiful valley!').
End marks matter: a full stop for statements and commands, a question mark for questions, an exclamation mark for strong feeling. Changing the mark changes the meaning.
کہانی میں جملوں کی چار اقسام آتی ہیں: بیانیہ ('He found a map.')، سوالیہ ('Where does the river go?')، حکمیہ ('Mark the trees!') اور تعجبیہ ('What a beautiful valley!')۔
اختتامی علامتیں اہم ہیں: بیانیہ اور حکمیہ کے لیے ختمہ، سوالیہ کے لیے سوالیہ نشان، شدید جذبات کے لیے تعجبیہ نشان۔ نشان بدلنے سے معنی بدل جاتا ہے۔
The boy returns a hero, but not because of gold: he brings news of the spring, and the village builds a channel to carry its water to the fields. His adventure helps everyone, which is why the story is remembered.
The lesson's moral: adventure is not about running away from home, but about using courage and kindness to bring something good back home.
Key points to remember — 1. A Boy, a Map and a Mystery, 2. Problems and Clever Solutions, 3. Vocabulary: Words of Adventure and 4. Grammar Focus: Sentence Types. These four topics are the chapter's take-away ideas: read them in order, then close the page and say them back from memory.
یاد رکھنے کے اہم نکات اس باب کی بنیادی باتیں ہیں: ایک لڑکا، ایک نقشہ اور ایک راز, مسائل اور چالاک حل, الفاظ: مہم کے الفاظ, گرامر: جملوں کی اقسام۔ ان نکات کو ترتیب سے پڑھیں، پھر صفحہ بند کر کے انہیں یاد سے دہرائیں۔
Exercise Questions — with Answers (from the library masters). لڑکا نقشہ پاتا ہے…
his grandfather's trunk — The old map is hidden in his grandfather's trunk.
پرانا نقشہ اس کے دادا کے صندوق میں چھپا ہوتا ہے۔
جنگل میں لڑکا درختوں پر چاک سے نشان لگاتا ہے تاکہ…
find his way back — Marking the route is planning ahead — he can retrace his steps.
راستے پر نشان لگانا پہلے سے منصوبہ بندی ہے — وہ اپنے قدم واپس تلاش کر سکتا ہے۔
'What a beautiful valley!' ہے…
exclamation — It expresses strong feeling and ends with an exclamation mark.
یہ شدید جذبات ظاہر کرتا ہے اور تعجبیہ نشان پر ختم ہوتا ہے۔
وادی کا اصل خزانہ ہے…
a spring of clean water — The spring's water helps the whole village's fields.
چشمے کا پانی پورے گاؤں کے کھیتوں کی مدد کرتا ہے۔
'Curious' کا مطلب ہے…
eager to learn and know — A curious person wants to find out and explore.
تجسس والا شخص جاننا اور کھوجنا چاہتا ہے۔
لڑکا جنگل میں درختوں پر نشان کیوں لگاتا ہے؟
So he can find his way back — a wise traveller plans the return, not only the going.
تاکہ وہ واپسی کا راستہ تلاش کر سکے — عقلمند مسافر صرف جانے کا نہیں بلکہ واپسی کا بھی منصوبہ بناتا ہے۔
علامت لگائیں: 'where does the river go'
Where does the river go?
Where does the river go? (سوالیہ جملہ، سوالیہ نشان)
مسافر کی مدد لڑکے کی کیسے مدد کرتی ہے؟
The traveller later shows him a shortcut — kindness returns as help.
مسافر بعد میں اسے مختصر راستہ دکھاتا ہے — مہربانی مدد بن کر واپس آتی ہے۔
لڑکے کی مہم پانچ جملوں میں سنائیں۔
A good retelling covers: finding the map, crossing the river by a fallen tree, marking the forest path, helping the traveller, and bringing news of the spring home.
اچھا خلاصہ احاطہ کرتا ہے: نقشہ ملنا، گرے درخت سے دریا پار کرنا، جنگل کے راستے پر نشان لگانا، مسافر کی مدد کرنا اور چشمے کی خبر گھر لانا۔
کیا آپ متفق ہیں کہ مہربانی بقا کی مہارت ہے؟ کہانی اور حقیقی زندگی سے دلائل دیں۔
Yes: in the story kindness earns a shortcut; in real life helpers gain friends, information and rescue when they need it — people help those who helped them.
Sharing brings lasting honour, safety and a better village for his own family too; selling a secret brings short money, enemies, and a village that stays poor — including his own future.
A curious boy follows an old map from his grandfather's trunk across a river, a forest and a hill to a hidden valley. He solves problems calmly — a fallen tree for a broken bridge, chalk marks for the way back — learns adventure words and sentence types, and finds the real treasure: a spring whose water helps the whole village.
Revision guidance: Retell the journey in five sentences in order, then write one example of each sentence type before the exercise.
